  • In-Lay Mat - Distance from Screen?

    Hello,

Im getting closer to wrapping up my build! See photos.

Now, what I need to figure out is where to put the inlay mat within my simulator turf surround.

any idea for hitting distance from screen? You’ll see in my photos the ceiling drops down to 8’ so I want to be sure no one can hit a shot they goes above the opening (again, see photos, it’ll make sense)

    thoughts?

That is very cool set up and great idea!! Your question would be a huge concern depending on how far away from the front wall your hitting position is actually at. Then I might be more concerned with someone's swing arc/radius/path or what ever it is called and how close that swing would bring them to the corner of the walls if they are hitting from the center of the mat that you have shown? Since the opening is roughly 11ft wide, then they would be hitting from the center of the mat at around 5ft and if your mat depth is roughly 6ft from the wall [75"] which makes it roughly 3ft centered [somewhere between the 4 putting cups], that would put the swing path really close to those corners? If that makes sense at all as I can see it in my mind what I am trying to say but it is hard to put into words. If you have all right handed or left handed hitters then you really wouldn't have to worry to much but only if someone is hitting from the center of the mat.

I like to have the top of screen area (just as it reaches ceiling) to be at a min 45-degree angle from the ball at the hitting area. i.e. distance to screen area = height of screen area. This is because any lower angle and your wedges could fly high and even miss the alcove in your picture.
The problem is that means 8ft hitting distance for you and that is quite tight to the side walls with your swing.
Probably means you will have to go a bit further back so your driver swing misses the sidewall and then put some padding over the alcove and on the ceiling outside the alcove.

I have a slightly wider hitting area than you but similar height. I am 8ft from the screen for hitting BUT my sides to the frame are only 1m (yours are closer to 2 metres)
