  • Garage Build final Pic w/ Details - Thanks for the help

After trying several different hitting mats that I was not satisfied with, my uncle suggested using a house rug. Crazy but it definitely worked best for me. I've been hitting in my garage for over a year but it was purely functional and looked accordingly. With all the time at home, I decided to completely finish it out. Everything I did was taken off this forum so I wanted to give back with the pictures and details.

    - Room Dimensions: 12'W x 9'2"H
    - I am 5'11" and choke down about 1.5"s on my driver. Had an occasional light scrape against the ceiling when I started, but none lately

    - Screen: Carl's Place Preferred
    - This picture is taken after at least 3000 hits

    - Projector: Optoma Darbee Short Throw
    - Ceiling mounted offset about a foot to the right and used the settings to square it up.

    - Black Window Curtain: Walmart

    - Sub Flooring: 1/2 inch interlocking Anti Fatigue Mats from Harbor Freight
    - Box cutter worked great for trimming these when needed

    - Green carpet: 4 EcoRug 6'x8' Indoor/Outdoor Rugs from Lowes
    - Stuck to the floor mats with 3M double sided mounting tape (rated for 15lbs)
    - Trimmed easily with standard scissors (no fraying)

    - Hitting area: Rug from Overstock.com
    - Doesn't mess up my IRL swing like some other fluffy mats did. The idea is to get better right?

    - Laptop: Dell XPS 13

CHAMOO very nice! I assume you're pleased with Carl's Preferred (instead of the Premium)? Are you using 4:3 with your projector?

I'm building mine now and looking to get the Preferred for a 16:9 display. I'll be shooting 1080p, which I assume is what you're using. No concerns with the video display on the screen?

Yes, it's 4:3 and 1080p. I think Carl's Preferred is a good option. They do take a beating and it will show, there will be very small nicks in the screen from the impacts. Not sure if the Premium can stand up better. I'm ok with it because they are only noticeable to me when the room lights are on and the projector is off. Once everything it setup, I don't see them.

Years from now when I replace the screen I might upgrade just to see.

I believe Martin Hall's mats are the best on the market. I bought a 6' x 5' mat from them. You can stick a tee in it and it's nearly 2" thick. It's sturdy and will take the sting out of the reverb from hitting down. Aching elbows seem to be common when not using a good mat.
