  • Lighting Placement

    Hey folks,

Getting near the end of the planning stage and need some advice on light placements. I will be doing two pendant lights towards the back of the room overtop of seating/bar areas. As for over the hitting area I am left unsure. The projector (GT1080HDR) will be ceiling mounted and needs to be at 8.5' from the screen. The centre of the hitting mat is 8' from the screen. My worry about putting a light directly over top of the hitting area is concern around washing out the projection as the light will be just 0.5' in front of the projector.

If I did a longer track light and positioned the lights towards the edges of the track (not centred) and directed the lights towards the middle, would that work?

Also, my ceiling height is 12'. Any recommendations on lighting solutions for the hitting area is much appreciated. I am guessing I will need to lean more towards a suspended track light rather than a pot light or semi-flush light.

All lights will be on dimmers.

Don't worry about the windows (wife wanted the shed to match the house) but I've got some blackout curtains.

I used http://www.waclighting.com/product/silo-x20/. My ceiling is 10'. I added a snoot to pinpoint the beam further. My projector is about 7.5' from screen, hitting area is around 9' away from screen.

mgunner, that looks closer than 9'. Is that a QED mounted on the ceiling?

Yes, it is QED. It is 9' from screen to center of my hitting zone. The picture makes it look closer because of the black flooring tiles.

If I ceiling mounted the light for the hitting area just behind the projector, would that function okay?

So centre of hitting area at 8' from screen, projector at 8.5' from screen, and ceiling light at 9' from screen aimed forward towards the hitting area?

With the light you suggested, how many lights would you recommend? Just one? Or several?

I only use one for the hitting area. But I did purchase an extra track and 3 more heads for when I add swing cameras.
Working...
