The In-Law Build: ~$20k Budget - Uneekor EYE XO in Gutted Former Sim Room

Well my in laws just moved to town and I've been tasked with rebuilding the former golf sim room in their new house. It's a blessing and a curse.

I could really use some help!

Planned Equipment

- Uneekor EYE XO with either Refine/Succeed and TGC
- Uneekor Swing Motion Cameras
- SwingTurf Mat 4' x 9'
- Optoma EH460ST
- Rain or Shine Tech Bundle
- Carl's Place Premium Impact Screen (dimensions unsure)


PROBLEMS

1. The room shape is a little funky with that soffit in the top left corner. If I'm hitting a driver from the center of a 16:9 screen, I'll definitely hit the soffit. If I'm swinging from the center of a 4:3 screen I'll probably be ok, but to be safe I think the tee location will have to be offset about 6-10 more inches to the right. There are no left handed golfers in the family.

2. We want to ceiling mount the projector and I'm a little worried that will interfere with the EYE XO or swing if we end up offsetting.



QUESTIONS

1. This is the biggest issue right now. Should I go 4:3 or 16:9 in this case? I'm leaning toward 4:3 because the tee offset from center for driver won't be as extreme as with a 16:9. Also, the left edge of a 16:9 screen would overlap with that left corner that juts out and might cause some ricochets.

2. Since this is a built in screen and not a swing bay, how do I cover up the sharp angle iron and other edges? Is there recommended padding and mounting for that?

3. As I understand it, the Uneekor EYE XO with the refine/succeed software allows for an offset tee location, but I'm assuming that means you have to offset the sense mounting position too, right?

4. I was planning to lay turf through the whole room just like carpet and then set the hitting mat on top of it for now. Maybe recess the hitting mat down the road. Are there any recommended turfs for this purpose, or is going to home depot fine?

16:9 will simplify projector and monitor native resolution issues. Dual monitors and a projector are working well in my setup. One of the monitors has tgc2019 and it is duplicated on the projector. The other monitor has uneekor ignite data screens and camera replay. Also, I run a roku in the corner as PIP.

1.What are you using for a mat? We are looking at options to upgrade from a CCE mat.

1. Custom Fiberbuilt mat 3x10 putting area toward the screen and a 9x4 stance mat. (T shaped for the garage) Shag 1.75" artificial grass to stop ball bounce and roll filling in the area to the left and right of the putting mat. I wouldn't change a thing and have had another $500 mat that made my elbows and wrist hurt.(and I sweep the ball)

This is very similar to what I'm planning right now with a Par2Pro Stealth system. I like the putting strip down the middle. Wish Fiberbuilt put the cup in the middle thought. Two questions...Does the stance mat push up closely to putting surface to roll fairly true? Second, Why did you decide custom 3x10 over the stock 4x10 putting surface? I'm planning 4x10 then couple of 6x10 rolls of turf to fill left and right sides of bay.

I definitely prefer the looks of a 16:9 screen, but with the required offset to not hit the soffit behind a right handed golfer I'm worried that it will be really awkward being lined up to the right 1/3 of the screen. Maybe having that much offset doesn't bother people as much as I think? Also because of the soffit, we'd have about 1.5 ft of wall above the screen that would be some sort of padding.

Love the idea of putting a secondary screen to display swing data and recordings while using TGC. I think that'll be really helpful for analyzing misses.

Some people seem bothered by hitting offset. I don't mind it at all. After all, you're not looking at the screen while you're hitting anyway. You're looking down at the ball. And by the time you look up the ball has already hit the screen. In your case it would be a small sacrifice in exchange for the better image. Just my two pennies.

So you don't think having 20 inches of padding at the top of the wall would be detrimental?

Seems you could center the screen and use netting and blackout around the edges, works great on mine and I to like the multi monitors.

Good thoughts, though centering a smaller screen would still put the tee center in the middle of the room where the soffit comes into play and if using an offset tee position, you would be hitting even further on the right side of the screen than if it was full size.

I guess I'm starting to lean toward using a 4:3 screen, but still looking to make sure that's not going to be a big mistake.

Can you reduce the size of the soffit? Seriously. They are often oversized for ease of build. There may only be a 6" round duct in there.

My screen is about 14' wide. Some people want 16' wide, but don't know that a 16' wide screen requires 30% more lumens from the projector to create the same brightness. Also, I have 10'8" ceilings and the ceiling protection and fabric baffle near the screen easily hangs down to the top of the screen image. With a ball 11' from the screen, the screen size still feels massive and is bright and punchy.

Mounting a 14' wide screen fully offset to the right side will help center the ball to the screen. Use the camera offset in tgc2019 if you want to correct the image further.

8' is a really comfortable distance from side wall to tee. My side panels are mounted so they are next to the screen (14') and wedge outward to 16' at the hitting area. I don't touch the side panel when taking a practice swing with my driver. (I'm 6'2")

Again, I'd inspect the contents of the soffit. You might be trying to compromise a 20k install because of $300 of soffit changes.

Some good news here. We were able to have the soffit taken down considerably! Now we have the screen up (Carl's Place Premium) and some turf and a hitting mat down.

Now we need to block the 1.5 foot gap at the top and protect the left and right a bit.
