  • Completed QED Home Build

I am about 95% done with my home build. I had a previous thread which was more to ask questions, etc... But wanted to start fresh to organize the details of finished product. This has been a dream of mIne and something I have spent a lot of time planning over the last year - with a lot of help from the people and content of this forum. I am excited to share and elaborate in greater detail with more pictures for others who want to get ideas and learn. I will look to add more pictures to answer any questions.
    • 13’ wide x 13’ deep x 10’ high space
    • Uneekor QED Ignite w/ TGC19
    • Epson Pro L1100U Refurbished w/ ELPLU04 lens
      • After hours on forum and ProjectorCentral I opted to mount behind tee, just below and behind the QED bar
    • Vant Panels all around instead of curtains (just about killed myself hanging them overhead over 2 days, but the wife is happy with the “finished” look)
    • Rymar Turf (they do Uneekor PGA show booths and were recommended)
    • Carl’s Premium Screen 9.5’ x 12.5’ (bought on clearance, pre-finished with grommets)
    • iBUYPOWER Gaming PC - i7-9700F GeForce GTX 1660 16 GB RAM
    • Sony STR-DH790 7.2 AVR
      • Projector and PC run through the AVR
      • 7.1 surround sound runs through also... 3 speakers and sub behind screen, 4 surround in ceiling

So cool. Do you mind sharing some close ups of the QED and projector setup as well as the Vant panels. What did the Vant panels cost?

Looks great! Love the panels! Curious on the 13' depth. Is the 13' to the end of the turf? How far are you hitting from screen?

Looks great! As a father of three kids 5 and under, the most impressive part is that you made all those toys disappear!

I got the 39” panels. There are 99 total and they come in 4 packs... I bought them like 20% off during a Memorial Day sale and they were sitting in my garage for a few months!

The projector is hanging from ceiling off a 6” pole... I’m going to replace with a 3” getting it really snug to the QED which Uneekor confirmed is fine (not anywhere near the cameras and won’t interfere with infrared). This should mean that someone about 6’6” could still stand in the tee without casting a shadow on the screen.

It is 13’ from the back wall to the end of the turf. With the premium screen from Carl’s I only need 12” off the wall to mount screen (I used angle iron hidden behind the vant panels). It seems a little tight (especially bc I have 3 in-wall speakers and sub behind the screen - but I’ve been ripping drivers with +170 mph ballspeed and the screen barely moves. Balls just drop to floor. The screen is amazing) . This means that from center of my 4’ deep tee you are standing 10’ from the screen. I was worried it would be a bit close, but it’s what I had to work with. But now that it’s functioning and I’m playing it’s totally fine and comfortable.

Awesome build!!!! It might be crazy hard to do but was just wondering being that close, have you had any lob shots hit the ceiling panels and how did they hold up if you did? I am building my room now and was wondering how the panels worked out for you.

HAHA - no kidding... We have 3. So the simulator doesn't take up much more room than that old bar area. The remainder of the room will continue to be for kids... Although a lot of those toys may end up "disappearing" on their way back into the play room.

Congratulations, this build looks fantastic. I also have the Vaunt panels and find they work very well. a couple questions.
Your projector set up looks great. What aspect ratio are you running and is the Epson loud?
Would also love to hear feedback on your hitting mat, we have the CCE mat and find it hard on the body. Considering an insert.

The putting surface is much shorter than the tee, so at their recommendation built a sub floor using 1” Dricore panels. Then for the tee, I first put down left over carpet pad from the demolition... however the tee was a bit short of the putting surface. It was also a bit too soft. So we put a 1/8” plywood sheet between the tee and the carpet pad and now it’s not only flush with putting but I think it’s a great combo between being firm but provides “give” on fat shots.

The Epson is very quiet. I’m running pretty much everything through the PC. So it’s set to a 4:3. Then things like TGC and movies show nicely in 16:9 within the PC image. I am having trouble getting full 9x12’ image which projector central and audio general confirmed that I could... it’s a little smaller but no major complaints. Only technical issue is that I have a Sony blu ray that when I switch to cannot get it’s 16:9 to fit (the short lens can’t zoom out enough) and can’t seem to figure out how to switch it to 4:3. Work in progress.

They are the 39” version - guess It would have been nice to be larger, so that it took fewer to hang!! Especially overhead.
if I had to do it again I would taken WAAAY more time drawing out center lines for all of the tracks. The way they tell you to do it is to lay out one row, using the panels themselves to create the right angles. Then build on it. So I tried to keep first row in ceiling as straight as possible, but it was inevitable slightly off as the upholstered panels are not all identically shaped. By the third row the misalignment became very apparent. So I have some significant gaps between the second and third row that I’m looking to visually correct with black vinyl. You’d never notice when standing at tee of watching a movie... unless you walk towards the screen. But I bugs me that it’s not perfect

Really like the look. Makes the space really inviting for sim and/or home theatre. How has the QED been working? giving it serious consideration.

                            Thank you!

I have played around in the past with some more complex no-name systems, but otherwise don't have much to compare against. But obviously did a ton of research and the price point and features that come with the basic IGNITE can't be beat IMO... and the stats vs something like a trackman are solid. So far been using just a week or so, but i am super happy. I mean, you can even putt within a few inches! It's pretty amazing.
I have range balls, two piece bridgestones that Uneekor included in the SwingOptix package, and then i bought a three piece from that startup company called Urethane Unicorns. I spend a lot of time hitting wedges and I feel the numbers are pretty short... so still working that out. Not sure if it's the balls or what else. I was smoothing 9 irons last night with only a 135 yd carry - should def be closer to 150. So need to figure that out.
