Hey guys, I've had a Carl's Place DIY enclosure going strong for about a year now, but am trying to figure out the best way to stop ricochet shots from coming back at me off the top bar (directly above the screen). I've tried to bungee a blanket with some limited success. What solutions have you guys found to cover the top bar so that wedge shots don't come flying back at you?

don't choose regular foam - try some memory foam instead - like the kind you find for beds. regular foam is more elastic whereas memory foam is viscoelastic and that's what you want to absorb impact. i have custom cut memory foam blocks i ordered from some online store (foamorder.com i think).

Did you ever get this resolved? I hit my crossbar which is already covered in foam pipe insulation and has a net loosely hanging in front of it and it came flying back.
If so, any suggestions as to what I could purchase being UK based?
Thanks in advance

I ended up cutting up 4" memory foam folded in on itself like the poster above recommended. I then used short bungee cords to hold it to the crossbar. It stops the ball dead, but sometimes the balls get stuck between it and the cross bar so have a bucket of balls ready because they can be hard to fish out. I probably now have 5-6 balls stuck up there at any given time. They seem to work their way out over time though lol.Originally posted by uk_golfer View PostDid you ever get this resolved? Thanks for the reply. So to confirm, when doubled over you have 8 inches of memory foam strapped to the crossbar? If so, do you think 4 inches would be sufficient? I've just bought a 3ft x 2ft 4 inch thick section that I planned to cut in to 4 equal pieces of 3ft x 6 inches. I was then going double these up and make it 8 inches deep which would cover 6ft of the crossbar. Unfortunately a friend hit the side post with a 5 wood and it wasn't pretty! So now I have to also protect this and if it has to be 8 inches deep this is going to start costing a lot more than I was hoping to spend.Originally posted by pdxvol View Post

Can't hurt to try it and see if it works out. All I can say is that mine stops the ball dead. It drops straight down and there's basically no bounce back. Not sure about 8".Originally posted by uk_golfer View Post
