Got the 12X20 delivered late April but my contractor couldn’t get to me until last week of June with his backlog. They were so freaking SLOW. I laid the carpet tiles myself yesterday. They’ll touch up tomorrow, nail the baseboards. It’s kind of a tribute to The Masters with the green and yellowish gold. Just waiting for Carl’s Place to finish my 5’ enclosure and ship....should be any day now. Lost count how many wall outlets they put in...2 even in the ceiling. Very pleased and psyched!

Hey Steve...yes it was insulated. I wanted double 5/8” sheet rock for sound insulation as well but the ole contractor said that’s nuts...so we didn’t. Carpet tiles from Lowe’s: Varna 16-Pack 18-in Heather Green Pattern Peel-and-Stick Carpet Tile Item #: 841425| Model #: 7PD4N1116PK. I don’t know what EVA foam is so I guess they didn’t put it in. Came in 7 very light boxes, easy to carry, no HUGE roll of carpet that I’d have to lug around the shed to install.
They are finishing today. Dear God they are slow but the enclosure from Carl’s won’t be here until tomorrow so I guess it’s OK. I’ll go after they leave this afternoon to get the EMT conduit for the enclosure or wait until tomorrow morning. Only problem is the wife and her daughter, grandkids want to go back to the summer house at the shore on Friday for a week or two but...I want to stay and get everything set up.
Good luck with your shed. I’ll edit my OP and inset a pic when it’s done.
Edit: Asked the contractor about Eva foam. No, that’s for exercise type floors. Nope...just peeled the backing off and followed the arrow keeping the grain or whatever running the same direction. These fellas would’ve taken a day ($525) + carpet tiles and I did it easily by myself and saved the $525.

Thanks! You think the carpet tile would work as a stance mat or would it move during the swing?

Skyking Also how did you insulate the floor? foam boards under the shed or something else?Last edited by steve51523; 07-26-2020, 05:23 PM.

Just FYI to all of you who are getting a Carl's Place enclosure. #1 Lowes does not sell the 1 inch EMT pipe anymore (at least not here in the mid-Atlantic). #2 Yes...Home Depot was willing to cut the pipe in the plumbing department for free as was noted in other threads, but this moron used a piper cutter. The first cut was bad, the second God awful. When the contractor and his crew were loading up with the job being finally completed, he offered to leave a pipe cutter for me. I told him HD was gonna do it and you can't use a pipe cutter on EMT. I let HD do it because I thought they would do a good job. Shame on me! I'll cut the rest myself with a hacksaw before the enclosure arrives tomorrow.
You've been warned!1 PhotoLast edited by Skyking; 07-21-2020, 11:01 PM.

Your absolutely right bond but nope...don’t have one. Forgot I had a regular size hacksaw and that’s what I used. I started out with the little one I bought and there was no way that was going to work. Finally finished with the cuts and just waiting for delivery of the enclosure. If it’s not for a few more hours I’m OK with that so I can rest....whew
The cuts aren’t perfectly straight but I think close enough. Sanded the burrs off and put duct tape over the ends. I watched the video on the pro model or whatever it’s called, but I believe this DIY model does it require sliding the “walls“ over the tubing. I think this one just drapes over the top and sides using the bungees to attach to the pipes. Once I get the fittings delivered I’ll be able to tell if the ones HD screwed up will work or I need to hammer him a little bit.
Between buying the shed, getting the inside finished out and buying all the components, we’re into this about 20 grand! I figured it would be half that

Took about 3 hours. 45 minutes for the frame. Fair amount of time just staring at the enclosure before throwing it on top and pulling it down the sides. The wife came in, nipped and tucked here and there to make it look nice. Most of the lines from it being folded for shipping are gone. The screen looks looser than it is. I hit a few and got a nice thud. It’s the medium grade from Carl’s.
First time I’ve set up a projector and there’s definitely growing pains and frustration I didn’t anticipate. Was always just handed the projector remote and everything was good to go. Don't know about TGC but e6 has a menu setting where you pick the resolution AND “window” vs fulls screen. Had to restart several times after I changed the window size. Was really disillusioned at first because the picture covered the screen and half way around both sides.
Will study where to mount the projector as I’m a lefty and of course everyone else I know isn’t. Only have 12 feet in width so...
In the end this is far far more involved than I ever dreamed. Much respect to you guys who goy through it and enjoy your space.2 Photos

Think I'm setting up something very similar to you but just using the EMT between two walls rather than building an enclosure (10ft width room).
What screen size do you end up with? I got mine from Carl's earlier in the week but its still packaged while I prepare the rest of the room. Now I'm wondering if I should hang it to give it a chance to straighten out the folds before I can use it (no LM until August).
Your setup is looking nice and for the work you've done yourself, it doesn't look particularly DIY from the photos!

I was going to do something like that ce but the wife um...struggles with playing golf so I needed to make sure no unmanned rockets hit the walls. Haven’t gone out to the shed this morning to see the screen and unfortunately I’ve got to go with the family to our shore property for a week starting tomorrow, so I’m sure the screen will be fine by then. If it still looks the same when I go out today, I may figure out a way to stretch it a little bit while I’m gone. It’s most definitely tight enough now.
Yeah...run the pipe between the walls and call it a day. My screen is 106”W x 81 or 83” H. With the enclosure width makes it 115”W x 90”H. The wall behind the screen is that Masters’ yellow and we’ll have to see if that’s okay or I need to put something black behind the screen. When the wife was behind the screen doing her nip and tuck I was shocked at being able to see through it. Had no idea it was that thin. The nylon enclosure is pretty thin as well. You can see light bleeding through on the side from a small window. Wish the material was thicker but I’m very pleased with what I got and dealing with Carl’s.
I originally used a 32” then 55” 4K TV and really agonized if I wanted to do this. From doing flyovers of a few holes on e6 and yeah...night and day more immersive. Fired up Xfinity streaming at the end of the day and watched some of the golf coverage on the screen. It was cool to see it that big but the resolution was pretty horrific… especially compared to the 75” 4K in the living room.

You inspired me to get my screen up now while I keep getting the rest of the room done.
I see what you mean about the thinness of the screen and having the light escape with the medium grade net from Carl's. It looked fine straight on but behind the net it was almost like a flyscreen looking back to the hitting area!
I hope the yellow holds up for you, I think you'll be right with it if there's otherwise no lighting behind it from the ceiling. Otherwise, I've also heard people adding a layer like a doona/duvet/quilt with no cover on it, at the very least to dampen sound. Not sure if that'd make lighting better or worse though.
How tight is the enclosure? I'm wondering if I need sides or if I can get away with fixing some upholstered foam wedges up against the gaps between wall/ceiling. Attached photo should show you how it ended up hanging it from the rail (will need to add eye hooks to the wall before using more bungees to make the sides tight enough!) Anyway, cheers for the inspo.1 Photo

I have about an 8” gap on each side between the enclosure and walls. Yeah...your setup would be fine for descent golfers, although most golfers, including myself, sometimes want to “try” something on the sim range and...the result could be a round hole in the wall and “lost” ball.

That's a good idea ce...easy to do and will look nice. Yep...had the wife take a few slow swings from the right side and we're good. She does have a chicken wing thing that helps. I posted a specific question about placing the projector and I'm 90% sure it will mount on that 2 x 4 roof brace without a shadow...nice surprise. It's several feet behind the mat and high enough that no one will hit it.Last edited by Skyking; 07-25-2020, 01:04 AM.

How big is your screen? I'm guessing 9x9? At 9x9 with that projector you should be mounting at 6 feet away (for a 4:3 aspect ratio). How far away is the roof brace?Originally posted by Skyking View PostThat's a good idea ce...easy to do and will look nice. Geez...that really sucks 3putt. The screen is 106 or 108” wide...can’t remember and 81” high. Surprised the projector has to be that close considering how popular it is on this forum. Maybe it just has to do with screen size huh?
One thing interesting with e6 Connect, you can have the video setting on “windows“ or “full screen” Using “windows” the size of the image is not much bigger than a large coffee table book all the way up based on resolution I believe??? The only hassle is having to make the change, then close and reopen the program every time you change the video setting. As you can see you from one of the pictures I found a resolution to fill the screen nicely at roughly 95 inches. I just don’t remember the resolution setting because I was just overwhelmed when I first got it started. I also fired up Xfinity streaming on the laptop and the sample movie I put on looked just fine in terms of filling the screen. was somewhat surprised.
If that is a hard and fast distance 3putt then I will either have to mount this projector on the floor for sure or get another one
The roof brace is 174” or 14.5’.

There is a little bit of leeway if your projector has zoom, but the wrong kind of zoom can affect the picture quality.
Basically, you can't just use any projector and slap it up wherever. It's really important to get one that has the correct throw ratio needed for your space.
Is there any reason you can't ceiling mount the darbee at 6 feet? If you can, then perfect. If not, I would say to just floor mount it (not ideal but it's an option) or sell it and buy the correct projector for your space. Determine where you can mount a projector and THEN buy one based on that distance. Not the other way around.
Projectors are the most confusing part of a sim setup. But it's definitely worth getting it right. Keep us posted.
