I saw a post on here about a week ago (the post was from a long time ago, maybe page 51?),about using carpet tiles for walls. I decided to do the same and am very happy ($1 per tile second hand, Australian speaking). They do the trick, looks good enough and help dampen the sound. Just have them held onto a plastered solid brick wall with double sided tape.
If you're after something to protect a sheeted wall then you could do something similar but fix plywood to some studs in the wall.
You could also do the same, then line with EVA foam tiles or foam sheet and staple fabric to it to clean it up?
I'll also grab some foam wedges to use to hide the fixings of the screen with some protection on the walls and ceiling (that's this weekend's job!).

Thanks for coming back I dont really want to put hardwood or carpet tiles on walls mainly for aesthetics. This is also going to be cinema room so i think foam/padded tiles is my only route.

I went DIY on my ceiling protection and happy with the looks and performance so far. I used a sheet of 4x8 foam board insulation as the backing material and affixed these acoustic tiles using a spray adhesive. The tiles are very thin, so they alone won't provide any protection but gives you that nice cinema-like room look for cheap.
Good luck!
