My new garage build is near complete and I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. I gained a lot from this forum so posting this in case it helps anyone.
It ended up taking me about 3 weeks to build (mostly late nights when the two kids are in bed) and was able to keep it relatively inexpensive and on budget.
I was lucky to have a pretty big 2 car garage to start with and this back corner gave me a nice space to build a 12’ x 13’ putting platform while still being able to comfortably park both cars. Platform was built layering a mix of lauan plywood, rigid foam insulation, foam workout impact mats and covering with putting surface/artificial turf rough all from Home Depot.
Went with a impact screen from Carl’s and attached to wall brackets with bungees. For sidewall/ceiling, I attached 1” foam insulation directly to drywall and topped with garage vinyl fatigue mat (comes in 4’ x 8’ rolls from Home Depot). This combo provides great protection for misses and looks great imo. Trimmed the impact screen in same fatigue mat material.
Went with an optima 1080darbee projector (open box Amazon for $600) and threw up a 65” tv that I bought for a $200 on FB marketplace. The nicer wall murals of famous holes were too pricey to be worth it, but I found this one for $110 and I think it adds a bit to the immersive experience.
Still putting on the finishing touches and need to figure a way to keep the garage a bit cooler as it’s steamy here in Charlotte, NC.
All-in with all of the above (but not including my skytrak or any software packages), I was able to stay somewhere in the range of ~$2,500 for the build so I was very pleased with what I got for that.
Got on WGT on iPad last night to play my first round and I was pretty disappointed in the clunkiness of the iPad app experience and no local multiplayer??? I’m thinking I’ll go TGC but still need to read up
Anything I should think about in wrapping this up? Appreciate any input or feedback
