  • Basement Build

This probably won't end up being a "pretty" build, but hopefully it gets the job done.

The was setup as a workout space before I pulled everything out of there. Unfortunately, it still needs to do double duty as a sim and workout space.

    Space is 12' W x 14' D x 9' H

I put down foam tiles from Costco as a subfloor, but really just needed a workout mat.

Got a Quattro mat. This thing is way different from what I've been hitting off of, especially when placed directly on the concrete floor.

Can't decide if I want to just place the turf mat directly on top of the foam mat, or pull out a section of the foam mat each time I want to swing. With only 9' ceiling, the little bit of extra height might help.

With the foam section pulled out, the old mat sits pretty even with the Quattro mat.

What are the specs of the PC build? I see a Noctua CPU Cooler and plenty of fans. a lot of fans (possibly overkill) Aorus Mobo... Is that a z390 Intel? Corsair PS.

From what I can see, this is shaping up to be a kickass computer.

A few things on the PC build, I wanted to make sure I could cannibalize it for my main in the event of a disaster. So there are some things that are overkill. Regarding the fans, it's important to keep positive pressure inside the case to keep out as much dust as possible, which is an issue in the basement. Good news is those Bitspower fans weren't horribly expensive.

      PC Specs:
      Case - MAINGEAR Vybe RGB
Motherboard - Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro
      CPU - Intel Core i7-9700K
      Memory - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 CL16
GPU - ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER EVO V2 OC Edition
      Drive - WD Blue SN550 1TB M.2
      PSU - Corsair RM650x 650 Watt
      CPU Fan - Noctua NH-U14S
      Wireless Adapter - ASUS PCE-AC56
Case Fans - Bitspower Touchaqua Notos

I approve on the setup. One thing though... positive pressure theory... You are correct about dust, however, you need intake air. My recommendation is to draw from the front panel (if you have a dust filter) or the bottom (dust filter)

Definitely. I'll have 2 front/2 bottom both intake, and 2 top/1 back for exhaust. Should do nicely. Still trying to decide on vertical or horizontal for the CPU fan.

SkeetShooter, My sim room is framed and I am roughing in the electric. It is going to be tight. 9' ceiling before hitting mat and finished ceiling, 12 1/2' width before drywall. I am 5'8" tall so probably won't make contact with ceiling or walls with driver but taller golfers will for sure. Are you concerned about swing space in your basement room? I'm also wondering if off-center hitting is possible to provide additional side space for both L & R hand golfers.

I've been swinging every club into a net, including driver, in my basement for years. At 6', I've never had an issue coming in contact with the ceiling. In this 12' wide space, I will be hitting from a foot off-center to give piece of mind about avoiding the wall behind. I don't need to worry about left handed golfers.

I built a somewhat unconventional screen frame. I wanted to try and keep as much width as possible, so the screen actually wraps around foam covered front poles and bungees to poles in the back. This seems to work well so far with several test swings, the screen isn't too tight.

I bought extra width on the screen, so my right side attaches on the edge of the screen, and the left side is folded over and clamped. I hung a blanket right behind the screen to help furhter deaden the ball. Still working on getting the screen tight to remove wrinkles, but not too tight.

Building a ceiling to which I'll attach some fabric near the screen and old workout mat tiles everywhere else. Right at the screen, I've hinged the ceiling panels so that I can drop them for easier access to the top of the screen and can then slide the whole assembly out if needed.

        Next steps will be:
        1. Adding some foam tiles to the cinder blocks on the right
        2. Installing a ceiling mounted curtain track on both sides of the screen
        3. Figuring out the best size for the curtains and best way to attach them

Used a more permanent method to hang the blanket behind the screen instead of clamps. The screen is pulled out about a foot what I was working behind it. The blanket will hang about 1" behind the screen.

Got the TV mounted and shelf for the PC. Also added some foam mat flooring to the right cinder block wall to deaden any mishits.

Electrical completed. Optoma EH200ST projector ceiling mounted (VIVO Universal Adjustable White Ceiling Projector $15.99 from Amazon) and plugged into ceiling outlet. Remote controls the functions of the projector including on/off. I have marked the ceiling location for my Uneekor EYEXO. My screen is not yet assembled but projector is mounted with lens approx 7' from back. When connected to the computer it projects both 4:3 and 16:9 quite well. I am confident that it is properly located. I installed an LED Pinspot Stagelight ($18.00 from Amazon) directly over my hitting spot. It is also controlled by a remote so it is plugged into the same ceiling outlet. I have a Lithonia 44" 3 light dimmable LED track light ($42.98 from Lowes) mounted near the back of the 17' room. I am waiting for my stance and SortStrike hitting mats before finishing the flooring and assembling the 8x10 1/2 screen from Carl's.
            Stay tuned, more to follow.
