Hi all, new member from the UK
as a counterpoint to all the amazing builds going on in the forums, I thought I would share my build details -
10 x 10 archery netting bungied to hooks screwed into either side of my garage walls £100
cheap chinese 1280 x 720 projector £100
R motion with 14 clip pack £300ish
dell optiplex £10 off e*ay + HD7870 £30, again e*ay - I know, couldnt believe it myself
£30 on mat and general bits n bobs
I know this is about as low end as it gets, but I built it as a proof of concept, with the idea of investing in a skytrak further down the road. It gives me a 110" diagonal screen, and im loving playing TGC. The Rmotion pretty much maps my distances and shot shapes in real life, so no complaints on that score. I built it last September, and I feel so lucky as during these crazy times, Iv had 15 golf courses and a driving range in my garage
- amazing really.
I have recently replaced the Optiplex with a more powerful PC (FX8350 based) as a pass down from upgrading my main gaming rig, although the optiplex worked fine for 9 months or so. It had 4 gig of ram, an old quad core intel (Q8400 I think) and the HD7870. What this does prove is that you dont need to be spending an absolute fortune on a rig to play TGC, especially if your resolution is less than full HD as in my case.
Downsides - dont quite have enough room to swing my driver, so its forcing me into really practicing my long irons
- in fact im loving my Mizuno MP 2 iron now. Projector hasnt got any kind of zoom or vertical shift to speak of, but I knew that going in and worked out my throw ratio and positioning accordingly. The one thing im surprised at is the low level of fan noise and the quality of image - not a massive diff from my Benq in the lounge. Im also using an old set of Mizuno MP30s I dont use, so clips can be left on.
Just tried to upload a couple of images but they are too large, will try so lower res ones later
