Hello all,

New to all of this, and I've become obsessed with and a little overwhelmed by all the data out there. I’m trying to figure out if I can actually fit a simulator in my basement. The size of the room doesn’t seem to be an issue, however the ceiling is 8’9”. Is that too short to consider a build? Alternatively, I expect it would be fine for most clubs besides driver. Is a sim worth it when you can’t swing all your clubs? I’m very new to this subject, and a new golfer, so mis-hits are a regular thing.

Side subject, I’ve been investigating the Mevo+ and the SkyTrak, but I would really like a swing analyzer that helps identify my problem areas. A new TrackMan or X3 are completely out of the budget, but can anyone recommend an add-on to the Mevo+ or a different machine altogether that provides great metrics and works with the good sim software.

The best thing to do is just take out your driver and see how it reaches any ceilings or walls. Take your stance and move the club around in a swinging motion (very slowly obviously) and see what you can and can't reach. If you can reach the ceiling with your driver, go down to a 3-wood and see if you can reach with that. And then on and on until you've determined what your longest club can be.

Is it still worth it even if you can't hit driver? I would say absolutely yes. There are a lot of people who can't hit driver and I know some can't hit more than about 5-iron. But you can still play courses at shorter tees so you can just tee off with your longest club and still play the course. The Protee Exhibition season in TGC2019 plays most of their tournaments at less than 6,000 yards so it's perfect for people who don't have room for drivers. And I believe there are some other societies set up for people with limited space. Most of the courses in TGC have multiple tee box options so you can just choose a set of tees that will work for your longest club. And there are also a ton of par 3 courses and even societies that play only par 3 tournaments.

When it comes to simulators, I subscribe to the theory that "something is better than nothing."

This is good advice. I'll put out all the clubs and see where I'm at. Any thoughts on affordable swing analyzers? Mostly looking at club path and face to ball since that's about all I can get my head around at this point.

e6 and TGC software provides club data. For Skytrak it's just calculated though using the ball data and not measured. I believe with a Mevo it's measured. I don't have a great answer though as I don't use the TGC club data at all. I just use the ball flight to determine what's happening at impact. The shot tracer and spin data tells me generally what I need to know about my club face.
