  • Basement Simulator Buildout advice

Just working on my own home golf sim. I actually pre-wired my basement sim when we built the house in 2016 with HDGolf and their black golf turf. Now that MEVO+ is out, I am looking to finish my own sim for a fraction of the cost.

My room specs so far are:

    14 wide x 10 high x 19 long.

    Simulator SETUP so far:
Sim: MEVO+ married to PC laptop with E6 package for (all ordered)

Screen and Enclosure to be ordered: Strongly considering the 16:10 Premium 185" diagonal DIY Kit with 5 foot enclosure from Carl's Place with side netting. (sounds like I need to add padding/memory foam to the frame too for ricochets)

16:10 Projector to be ordered: have it narrowed down to five 1920x1200 WUXGA models that allow me to position on ceiling mount around 14-15 feet from screen:

    1. InFocus IN2139WU 4500 lumens and $936.
    2. BenQ Laser LU710 - 4,000 lumens and $1,632
    3. EIKI EK-306U - 5,000 lumens and get a slightly used one for about $1,300
    4. EIKI EK-308U - 6,000 lumens and $1,595
    5. Panasonic PT-VZ580U 5,000 lumens and $1,495 (very popular projector but will require the most keystone adjustments)

Laser is interesting option since lamp life is so long - but is 4,000 lumens strong enough (translates to 37 foot-Lamberts on Projector Central)

Love the InFocus price but is it a good unit? anybody use it yet?

Any comments on projector brightness or quality would be appreciated. Any other thoughts welcome too.
Ceiling protection - either going to be carpet tiles or sound insulation tiles in black. Will also need some kind of black netting or black fabric to fill the gap between top of enclosure and ceiling tiles. Suggestions?

Walls - plan on doing a full size black and white image of the road hole at St. Andrew or something like that. Anyone know how to order that?

Mats: - I noticed that Allturf has a 4x5 foot 5/8th inch foam option in black: https://www.allturfmats.com/Ultimate...t-p/ob-4x5.htm

I am thinking of buying two 4x5 to create the width for righties and lefties. Also looking to do the DIY gel inserts as suggested in other posts.

One question I have is: is 4x5 enough hitting space or should I go 5x5, which will allow me to rotate the mats over time? or should I just save the money since the mats last so long?

Here are a few pics of my space to be completed. MEVO+ should hopefully arrive by early December.

Overall - I think I can do this for 1/5th the cost of HDGOLF system and also get a much better image at 16:10 and WUXGA. Pretty excited!
    Thx

I would HIGHLY suggest going with Par2Pro for their SQ-Custom screen... Everything you will for their installation method will come with the package... Including the black fabric that covers the angle iron around the sides and top... The angle iron installation is much preferred to an EMT cage as it is affixed to the walls and will way more sturdy and less noisy... I have attached a picture of my Par2Pro screen below as well as a youtube video they sent me to go by on the install so you can see what it entails (It wasn't hard)... I have almost 40,000 shots registered on my GCquad over the last year and my screen still looks brand new...
As far as the side and top protection... I would ask Par2Pro as well, I know they do custom curtains on the side and baffles on the ceiling but I would also suggest checking out Vantpanels.com... I think it looks the best... Other users have used these on side protection and I think it looks great...
As far as a mat, I used a Fiberbuilt mat that I just later on top of my gym flooring since I use my sim as a gym as well. And although I rarely move it, it is nice to be able to get it out of the way if we want to set up a ping piling table in there or if the wife has friends over to workout...
This is the video of the screen install...

I was having trouble adding the panorama pictures I have of my room that make it a little easier to see but they are in my build thread at:
Ok after lurking for a while and getting some advice on various components of my sim along the way I have started my build... We built a new house and I had 1/3 of the basement (~600sq ft) dropped 2 feet to creat 11 ft ceilings... This area will be my sim/gym area... The sim portion of it is 16.5ft X 22'10"... They just
