Hello All,
I took the last 18 months off and am ready to rebuild a nicer sim in my garage. I used to be a 0-2 handicap golfer, so am looking forward to the challenge of getting my game back in order. I currently have a skytrak, but am contemplating putting it up for sale and purchasing a GCQuad. My initial setup had me hitting into a net and projecting my ipad (WGT) or laptop (TGC2019) onto a large tv. Fun, but not quite the experience I wanted. Now, I want to do it right hitting into a projected image on a screen and I want a better launch monitor. However, I do have some challenges that question my ability to plan this out properly.
Here are a few comments/concerns that have regarding this buildout:
1) I have a three car garage with 13' ceilings. Lots of room, however I plan on converting just the single car side into the golf sim.
2) I would like to my car in the garage when the sim is not in use. (This is a requirement from my wife.)
3) I'm not very handy around the house.
4) The 13' ceilings make it difficult for me to figure out how I will mount a projector.
5) I almost bought the Net Return simulator series about 18 month ago, but figured I'd be disappointed in the size and the amount of screen usage. I don't really want 4:3 and I hate it when an image doesn't fill up the majority of the screen.
6) I am in the process of getting a quote from a garage door company to change my single car bay to a jackshaft opener and to raise the rails to 10' in height. For now, the garage door opener and rails make it impossible for me to hit from the center of the garage bay to the back wall. (My previous setup, I placed the net in the corner so the rails and opener were not in the way. In the diagram below, the net was in the top left corner. The garage door opener is near the front of Option #1 hitting mat.)
7) If I do the garage door mod, then I would consider getting the (Option #1) Foresight Eagle package so I have a full bay. However, I do not like the idea of parking a car on the turf or hitting mat. The projector cart for this package should fit on the right side of the garage with the car still parked inside. I would just have to put marks on the floor as to where the cart needs to be placed for the proper image (or have a company come out and mount it from the ceiling.)
8) If I don't do the garage door mod, I still have an option of just using the back half of the single bay to install a screen parallel to the right wall. (option#2) I just can't have it come out to far (especially the side protection) as it would prevent me from being able to park in the garage. I had an idea of mounting archery netting about 1-2 feet in front of the side wall and then "somehow" mounting an impact screen in front of it. I would also have the archery net come out from the wall (imagine it going across where a car would sit) to add shank protection in the garage. I could then fold the archery net back toward the wall when parking a car in the spot. The hitting mat would be between the two garage bays, so a car would not drive on it. From the Eagle package, the use of a cart to hold the projector off to the side is enticing. I know this might mess with the image if I don't get the right projector and the more it is offset, the worse the picture would be. I'm unsure of how I would properly mount an archery net and if I could get the screen secure enough to be useful.
9) For the option 2 perspective, I have about 14 feet from the back wall to where the garage door opener. (So that is max width) I would love to just put in a pre-made structure, but most of them come out 4 or 5 feet and that would block the ability to park a car.
10) Not shown in the drawing --- there are two windows on each of the walls (top and left walls in the diagrams) The windows are fairly high up on the wall, but they are breakable.
Here is a crude drawing.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks.
