  • New Simulator Ideas

    Hi everyone,

I am moving to a new home with a room that I think is perfect for a simulator. The dimensions are 14 feet wide and 26 feet long. And, it has vaulted ceilings. Pictures attached (these are the seller's photos and I would empty the room).

I really have no idea where to start on the build. I'm not the most handy person but I could get help from some friends. I know for sure that I do not need a launch monitor for outdoor purposes. Indoor only. So, I am leaning towards the Uneekor QED. My biggest worry is where/how to mount the projector and Uneekor QED (if I get that) with the vaulted ceiling with pine lining.

Ideally, I wouldn't want the entire room to be filled by the simulator. I'd like a few feet leftover on the width and maybe 8-10 feet on length.

Where do you suggest I start?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Looks like a great room for the build. I would use the entire 14' width, hit from 10 feet from the screen and have room for seating behind that.

I would second that on the width. 14 feet is not crazy wide, so I would definitely not trim anything off the width. Use that full 14 feet. Anything less and you likely won't be able to hit from center.

Have a look on YouTube for Larry Cheung. His new set up might give you some build ideas/ inspiration. By the way, that is a great rooom!

Thanks for the replies so far. The only issue, which I didn't mention, is that there are doors to/from the room at each end. So, I can't use the full width or it will block on of the doors.

Do you need to be able to use both sets of doors or could you block one of them off (or provide rear access to behind your screen etc)?

It appears the exterior door opens to the outside. Either way I would consider which way the door opens, it may save you a little space.

I would definitely need access to both doors. Yes, the exterior door opens to the outside. The interior opens to the inside of this potential golf room.

You can probably get away with using the end with the interior door. Appears to have enough depth for a screen plus enough buffer to the wall & window; other side w/ the exterior door doesn't look like there's enough space w/o the screen partially blocking the door.
At 14' width, you might run into space issue if you're having both righties and lefties play at the same time, it's heavily dependent on your turf set up (center or off-set contact point).

Does an enclosure exist that would also already have a mount for the Uneekor QED and projector?

There are ones that will take a projector, but have yet seen anything that would take both. I am sure it would be possible. Also, with the right fittings you may be able to design something yourself.

Thank you. I have seen this one and like the 18 foot bay, but I think it would be too wide for my space.

I would suggest just using a curtain on the side where the door is, which will allow you to still use the door when not hitting, and it looks like there is a drywall beam in the center of the ceiling - you could hang a platform down from that for the QED and projector... With a side curtains and a hitting mat you can move, you would still have almost ful functionality fo the room as well - put in some couches and you have a dual use theater....

What are people's thoughts on a pro enclosure kit from Carl's: https://www.carlofet.com/shop/pro-go...-impact-screen

I was thinking of the following options:

              - 4:3 ratio
              - 15ft enclosure depth
              - 9x12 size (actual width is 148.4 inches and actual height of frame is 114 inches)
              - Uneekor frame mount with crossbar
              - Projector mount

I think this option would be great because I could build this without having to install anything into the vaulted ceiling or run electric.

My only concerns are the width because of the interior door (I think it is doable) and the frame height at 9.5'. I think that's enough room to swing. I am 6'3".
