  • Cost for turf install

I thought I was getting ready for my final touches on my golf / soccer sim by getting some quotes on artificial turf for my 20’ x 10’ room.

The first quote came back at 5500$ CDN!!!

Is this the range I can expect for 200 sqft!!!

I am really starting to rethink my finishing options given this price point.

Thanks for your help. I am up on Calgary.

Wow, that seems steep. I bought turf from www.turfbarn.com , and was pleased with the price and service. I did not, however, carpet my entire sim area.

Shout out to a fellow Albertan, too.

Here is link for a shaggy artificial grass that will stop the ball from bouncing/rolling. I suggest having a putting surface directly in front of your ball, toward the screen. (A putting surface allows you to get direct input for the speed and direction of your putts.) I flanked the putting surface, on the left and right, with the shag grass. The putting extension to your hitting area can be as little as 2' wide, but larger can be better if you don't adjust the putting aim on screen. (especially fun with the uneekor) A vacuum cleaner can run over this shaggy material without issue. It is soft enough while directly on concrete.

There are many sizes and its easy to cut with a box cutter. It's $130 for a 5'x10' (50sqft). So, $2.60 a square foot.

If you expect to have a 200sqft putting green around your hitting area, then 5.0k may be in the ball park if there is substantial underlayment like fiberbuilt includes. The shag option has worked well in our active garage. (We park on the grass) Look for posted images of my setup if you want to go this route. I have 1.8 in the putting/hitting surface and stance mat area alone. The shag turf has always been great for our "drive over" setup.

something like this is pretty good for putting and fairly cheap, they also have a putting turf but I am told it is the same stuff without the backing

TFD Nylon 36 Padded 5mm was our first padded product on the market.  TFD Nylon 36 Padded 5mm is 36 oz. face weight and made from 100% texturized nylon.   This product is a preferred material for: sled work, batting cages, multi-purpose indoor facilities, CrossFit plus endless other opportunities.

This is the stuff I used in my sim. It's pretty good and was reasonably cost-effective. I had hardwood in the room that i didn't want to ruin - so I put down mats similar to what you use under an area rug and placed the turf on top of that. And then put down quarter round where it bumps up against the walls. Works great. I had my contractor who was finishing my basement do it -- cost around $500 for the labor and was worth every penny.

Looks like that would do a better job in a dedicated room.

I missed that the OP, DanFindlay , wanted to kick a soccer ball. Did he change his post? A continuous surface would be much better than the shaggy turf that I drive over.

Second quote came in at 1000$ material and 800$ labour which is much more in the ball park.

looking at carpet options and have a quote at 800$ installed.

That first quote must have been for some sort of Tiger install (look it up If you haven’t seen it...amazing).

Still thinking but appreciate the help.

Sometimes bad advice leads to really great advice. Keep asking the whole way through.

Glad you found a solution to your outlined objective.
