  • Custom Build or Sim in a Box?

We are renovating a house right now and have a ~17x24 unfinished room that I plan on converting into a golf sim. I'm leaning towards foresight because a few of my friends already have it but open to suggestions there. Torn between the GC Hawk and GCQuad. I would get the Quad for sure but we have young kids and I'm worried that one of them would accidentally destroy a monitor on the floor.

Attached is essentially what I'm modeling our room after. The existing area already flows into a separate living room and has the recessed floor as shown in the pictures. I guess my question is, what is the best way to build this room? Should I order everything custom/individually (and if so, please give recommendations), or would a Foresight Sim in a Box get the job done? I'm thinking ~35K budget. Also anything else to consider as far as soundproofing or anything? The living room that it connects to will basically be used for sports viewing/men activities.

If you are going with an overhead launch monitor, Uneekor EyeXO has been tested against all the big name ones and has very accurate data at about half the price of a GCHawk. It has more software options as well. The sim in a box is convenient in that you only have to make one purchase, but it's going to look like you set up an enclosure in your room, as opposed to having the room be the simulator, if that makes sense. There are countless threads on here about each aspect of piecing out a simulator. A lot depends on how much time you want to spend researching, how handy you are building stuff, and your budget. To get something looking like that picture, you would probably need to build a subfloor to sink your mat into (fiberbuilt is well-reviewed). Then you would need to decide if you want berber carpet or putting turf around it. You will need to build a frame to attach the screen to the walls, probably out of 2x4's and then use bungees to attach the screen to the frame. The pads on the walls could be as simple as gym mats attached to the walls or fully custom

It took most of the winter but I finally finished the buildout for the sim room! We built our house in the fall last year and I had them build a sport court with 12 foot ceilings then I finished it out to be a full blown sim room. I'm pretty happy with it and honestly its the only way to get through the winter here. Let me know

For a projector the Optoma 1080HDR and 1090HDR are popular these days.
