  • Sim Flooring and Hitting Mat (Room Layout Provided)

A few questions, requests for input on my proposed room layout here.

    1. Is the projector physically too close to the hitting location? For left and right players, around 6'1" tall (on a 10' ceiling), whats the ideal projector ceiling location relative to the hit location?
    2. Any recommendations on a padding or substrate to go underneath the TFD Putting Elite? Will serve as a landing area in front of the screen as well.
    3. Fiberbuilt 4x9 Mat. Is it OK to lay it on top of the TFD as shown? Or should the TFD be notched out to lay in the hitting mat?
    4. Any general comments or change recommendations are certainly welcomed.

    1) Depends in the projector. 2’ in front of the ball and 7.5’ from the screen is not an issue at all. As long as your projector is made to be that distance at the size you desire.
    2) Depends if you want putting cups for a ball to drop into. If so than you will want to be 2x4’s and OSB. If you do not want the ball to drop (or to use StarCups) than foam tiles or Dricore will work.
    3) Depends in your preference visually. Performance wise it isn’t going to hurt anything
    4) I think it looks like a good plan. Maybe try and get the PC cabinet back into the hardwood so that lefties do not have that behind them and in their mind.

Thanks Stetson. 1- Sorry, should have been more explanatory. Yes, the projector distance is correct for the throw ratio. My concern was more relevant to hitting the projector with a club on follow through for eighties or lefties.
2- No need for actual cups. Maybe a star cup straight ahead of hitting area to give an aim point on the mat. In which case it would be nice for everything to be level. Has anyone here cut into a TFD putting mat to insert a
      Fiberbuilt hitting mat?
4- Great observation. Thanks! Will implement.

The 4x9 mat has a border around the edge. Have you made adjustments or alterations so the mats are level without a gap? Fiberbuilt has combo mats that incorporate the same stance mat setup, but without that leading edge lip. That combo mat is designed to have their putting surface lay against the stance mat.

I highly recommend a level surface from your hitting area to the screen to guage putting speeds and direction. The uneekor qed hitting window is so large that you can putt off the stance turf of one side and still hit your other clubs off the 1' wide bristle area.

A blade or box cutter can cut the lip of the base where you plan on putting through. You can then butt the putting surface up to the hitting area of the stance mat.

Thanks Will. I like the idea of a level surface from hitting mat to screen as well. My plan is to figure out how much height I need to raise the putting mat to match the Fiberbuilt. Hoping I can find some padding that is the right thickness to put under the putting surface make up the difference.

Hey - I'm building out the garage and looking at about a 14' screen as well. Was poking around here to make sure that size is OK for most projectors as I see a lot 16' screens here. I assume you vetted the 14' enough and all good? What throw ratio and height/distance do you need to completely fill the screen. Appreciate it!

I’m mounting my projector at 10’ on the ceiling. About 7.7’ away from screen. When you decide on a projector, look it up on the projector central website. It’ll tell you the distance your particular projector needs to be away from the screen in order to fill your screen dimensions.

Makes sense, thanks. Just curious what ratio you plan on with your 9.5x14.5 screen?

16:9 projector. The Optoma HDR1090. Then use my GTX 1660ti VC and try to fill the 14.5’ x 9.5’ screen as much as possible.
