Projector Central Numbers Check

Looking for a sanity check here. Ref the picture below from PC website for a ceiling mounted Optoma GT1090HDR on a 14.5'W screen, from a distance of 7.3'. Is this saying that I will need to hang the projector 15" higher than the top of the image (which is 8.2' in height)? My screen will be 10' tall, so I'm looking at .9’ (11”) top and bottom with no image.

Will be using an GTX1660Ti video card to provide image to Projector. Anyone know if this card is capable of adjusting the ratio to fill more screen top to bottom?

It means the top of the image will be 15 inches below the middle of the lens.

It looks like you have that set to 16:9 aspect ratio. You say your screen is 10 feet tall (120 inches) and this setup will give you an image 98 inches high. So you actually have 22 inches of blank space to use between the top and bottom.

If you started your image 2 inches from the bottom, the top of the image would be 100 inches high. And the middle of the lens would need to be 115 inches high for that, which is 9 feet 7 inches.

If you want to fill some more screen, run it in 16:10. That will give you the same image width but add almost 11 inches to the height. (174 wide by 108.75 high). Check projector central to see if that optoma can run 16:10. That will depend on the projector, not the video card.

Thanks 3on3. I haven’t purchased the projector yet, so this is a good time to make changes there if needed.

On the 16:10 recommendation. Does that ration loose image quality over the 16:9? I understand there are a lot less 16:10 projectors on the market than 16:9, can you recommend a 16:10 Short Throw that is comparable to the Gt1090HDR. Thanks again.

You are correct in that the selection of 16:10's is much smaller than 16:9's. So finding one at your necessary throw distance and price range might be a bit of a hunt. I don't know of any to recommend off the top of my head but you can use the search filter on projector central to see if there's anything there that might work. I believe BenQ has some 16:10's. Bear in mind that they may not be 16:10 native, but able to change over to 16:10.

As far as image quality in 16:10 to 16:9, a 16:10 can give you 1920x1200 and a 16:9 can give you 1920x1080. So the 16:10 is a higher resolution. That being said, I doubt it's as much of a difference to be noticeable to the naked eye. The increased size is likely to be much more noticeable than any difference in resolution. I use 4:3 because of space issues, so I can't say for sure how big of a difference the image quality really is between 16:10 and 16:9.

How high is your ceiling? That will play a role in determining what kind of vertical offset you can use.

So the original Optoma and 16:9 is probably preferred then since the added image height of 16:10 might be tough with only 11 inches to spare between top of image and ceiling.

At 16:9 with that Optoma, you're looking at 23 inches to work with between top of image and ceiling height. Just look for a very short projector mount and you should be good to go. I recall there being a thread on here with recommendations for short projector mounts.
