  • Need advise for a future build

Hi! I'll be building a new house sometime next year after covid situation improves here in the Philippines. Now, I'm currently planning out how to incorporate my golf sim in the space that I managed to negotiate from my wife :-) . Due to space/budget limitations, I'm left to have the sim inside our den/tv room, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to hide/incorporate the sim without changing too much of the functionality and look of the room. The room will be 6m(19.6ft) wide by 6.8m (22.3ft) deep with a 2.7m (8.8ft) ceiling height with a glass wall on one side of the 6.8 meter length, and with 2 doors on an adjacent wall on the 6 meter side. I'll also have to put a couch and a big tv or projector screen for the room aside from the sim. I've been reading through the forum looking for ideas and so far have come up with a few options.

    1. Mount a golf impact screen at the 6 meter wall with hidden side curtains and maybe a cover that can be attached to the top of the curatinas that can protect the ceiling. With a motorized projector screen that can drop in front of the impact screen for regular tv/movie use. With a 1 meter walkway at the far end, couch and the impact screen a foot away from the wall, that leaves me with 2.15m (7ft) from the ball to the screen and about 2.43m (8ft)from the ball to the couch. Do I have enough clearances? I'm small at 5'5" (165cm) but I'm not sure if I have someone sitting on the couch if it's going too near to the swing. Got the idea of the build from this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IGf...st=WL&index=13

    2. Mount a TV or projector screen and have a drop down golf impact screen in front of it, I'll probably want to mount it even further away from the wall to avoid the risk of hitting the tv. I can use something like the homecourse https://www.homecoursegolf.com My problem here is how to hide the homrcourse so as not to ruin the aesthetic fo the room.

    3. Mount a drop down screen opposite the 6.8m glass wall, I'd still have 6m of depth from front to back and no couch to worry about but I don't know to hide it or make it look nice.

I'll probably use a moveable camera type system for the simulator, maybe a skytrak or a gc quad. I'm hoping something comes along that's better than the skytrak but cheaper than the gc quad before finish the build.

Sorry for the long post, I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to consider and I'll learn more as I go along. I'll appreciate any ideas/tips/recommendations. Thanks!

8.8ft ceilings are really short. Unless you are short (and everyone who will be playing is), that may be a problem when hitting driver. If you are building a new house, I would consider having the ceiling height raised or the floor lowered (as in stepping down a step or two into the room). I think most recommend minimum of 9 ft and 10ft or more is ideal for most. I would hit opposite the glass (just sayin) and make sure I had good side netting. You may also want to consider adding sound proofing solution such as resilient rails and 5/8" sheet rock, along with good insulation. That will help minimize the noise issues. My wife is making me sound proof for my new room addition so I've been looking at options for that and that is the best and most cost efficient method.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to haggle for a few more inches with my architect. I haven't really thought about sound proofing, but considering it's going to be right under the master bedroom, it's good that you told me before my wife does. :-)

I just got mine done about 2 weeks ago with 8'6" effective height (9' ceiling but with flooring, drywall, etc.. 8'6"). I am 5'7" and have a flat swing. I cut 2 drivers down 3" and use them, 250 yards off the tee, not ideal but it works. I also really enjoy just moving up tees and hitting hybrids off the tee. Can be challenging in some of the TGC societies but I love it and enjoy it. Would love to have another foot of height. Had a +4 handicapper over who is about 5'7" also, he hit full length driver all day but of course his swing is just about perfect. tallest person I have had is 6'2" and hybrid was fine. Hacker friend came over, big slicer and he about hit my centered overhead projector... so he is not invited back! I highly recommend the uneekor EyeXO, TGC 2019, Carls Enclosure and the Divot Action mats.
