  • New Build Timeline with Pics

After much research here (more to do) on this Forum, where I’m very grateful to have received lots of great advice. I’m finally ready to begin construction of the Sim Room addition onto my Workshop. I though I would use this thread to document the process, in case there are others that come behind me and can potentially learn from my mistakes or apply lessons learned along the way.

Original post on the Sim components for this room can be found here: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...ice#post298730

Room will be 16.5’ x 20’ with 10.4’ flat ceiling. More on the room dims below.

Construction Day 1: Foundation work. I had contractors bury 6x6’s in concrete to support the structure. The floor joists are 16 footers, but I want a true 16’ width finished inside. So I had them attach 1 foot pieces to the banding today to create room for 17’ floor joists. See pics. Relatively smooth day. Letting the concrete cure overnight, then onto more structure tomorrow. Day 2:

Got some more ground supports (6x6 on the perimeter and 4x4 in the middle) in today. 17’ joists are in. And the tongue and groove Tru floor is on. She’s taking shape. Walls go up tomorrow. Also have plastic moisture barrier and roll insulation going in the floor tomorrow. Hoping that will keep the cold/hot air away from the bottom of the floor. Progress! Click image for larger version

          Day 3:

Weather here in North Alabama has caused some delays, but we finally have a little progress. Walls are up and about 30% of the ply is on the walls. Rafters and roof tomorrow.

The pic that has the red circle on the wall stud is important. I had the contractors put this stud exactly 10" off the wall where the screen will attach. Matching 2x4 studs/rafters the same 10" of the wall will run across the ceiling and down the adjacent wall. These boards are what I intend to attach unistrut to, then hang the screen to the unistrut with zip ties or bungess. I figure having them give me studs right where I need them now, will alleviate the use of drywall anchors down the road. Estimating the shell to be finished mid-next week. Then onto electrical.

Build Update. Room is finally closed in. Still needs shingles and siding. But taking the day to pull in power and data. Mount boxes and figure out wiring runs for TV’s, Projector, Launch Monitor, Lights and Switches.

Looks pretty awesome. I'm super interested to follow yours. What will you use for turf / stance / hitting mat?

Hey man. I’m in Huntsville as well. Send me a pm here. Maybe I can get you to come over and give me your thoughts on the project.

TFD 2-Tone Turf and CCE Mat (for now). Plan is to build up the turf to match the mat in height.

More progress today. Roof is finished. Vinyl siding and soffit tomorrow.

I put more cables in the wall as well. HDMI, CAT-6, LED light wiring and Speaker Wire. Trying to get as much in the wall as I can before insulation and Sheetrock next week.

QED, Putting Turf (TFD 2-Tone) and the CCE hitting mat all showed up this week. It’s like Christmas, after Christmas!

I built a few mounting platforms here flush with the bottom of the 2x4 rafters, so I have a nice solid foundation to mount the Projector and QED into through the Sheetrock. They are spaced away from the front wall, understanding that the screen will be 10” off the wall. Then 7’9” to projector lens. Then 3.5’ back from that to QED (hitting location directly under projector). I put the QED recep and data cable pass through off to the right, as that is where they exit the QED. Want to eliminate unnecessary cabling on the ceiling as much as possible.

Also pre mounted the ballasts for the slim LED lights over the sitting area. They each have a 10” or so whip that I’ll reach up and grab after cutting a hole in the Sheetrock. The whips connect to the led fixture and the unit snaps into the drywall. Should be quick and easy install post Sheetrock finish.

I hope you did the research on CCE mat. Lots of golfers end up with joint pain especially if you have a steep swing.
