  • Premium screen protective surround

Hi. I have purchased a premium screen from Hybrid me in UK. Great screen by the way, hardly any impact sound with a driver and minimal depression at 140 miles hour !!. I have it mounted to 1" pole frame and suspended using tarp clips and bungie. I am trying to protect hitting the frame with 1 foot wide black tarp strip across the screen edge to the surround (also black cotton tarp) all around the screen. Problem is I need to stick the screen to this tarp strip to make the joint. I have tried double sided tape and sticky back velcro which sticks to everything but the screen. Any ideas for making this screen surround work ?

I would just use velcro? See one side to the screen and one to your black cloth. I would buy Velcro that is at least an inch of not more in width.

Yep. I have two strips of very sticky velcro giving 2" (50mm) width. The problem is the velcro glue does not stick to the premium screen. I tried some Gorilla tape also the glue does not hold. Think I have to rethink !!. Either use machined on velcro (although my wife says forget it !!) or another way

Sorry, I was not more precise in what I was suggesting, but suggest that you consider sewing it onto the screen.

I'm also in the UK and have bought a Hybrid Me screen (Type 3) which I will be hanging next week, hopefully with velcro but if that fails I may end up using an angle iron/tarp clips/bungees across the top. I ordered some 50mm wide velcro with PS18 adhesive - this is meant to stick better to surfaces with plasticisers. The Hybrid Me screen has a smooth cream coloured side which this velcro seems to stick well to, and a rougher white side (the projection side) that the velcro sticks to but not as well. The advice I received from mpdhookandloop who supplied the velcro is to leave the tape in a warm room before using (won't be as sticky if its cold) and then give the adhesive 24 hours to cure. If attaching to wood they also recommended stapling. My best guess is that it'll work fine if I stick the velcro to the cream side of the screen, but if I end up trying to stick the velcro to the rough/white/projection side I am wondering about also stapling it to the screen material. Good luck.

I tried gorilla tape which is SUPER sticky and sticks to everything else !!. As Phil wrote, the bright white side is for the front side. That type 3 screen by the way is awesome. Just 12 bungie to hold the raw material, its super flat and really absorbs the hits. For the screen surround I had a brain wave. The black tarp strip I have sticks well on itself so the side wall side is OK its just the tarp to the type 3 screen that's not sticking. I am going to frame up some narrow gauge steel wire to sit all around the screen by 50mm then fold the edge tarp back on itself around the wire and secure with velcro strip. Should give straight edges, not allow a ball to creep between the edging and screen, plus hold the edging in place to protect the outer frame from ball hits. I'll share pictures when done

Yep. That worked fantastic. Tarp is tight to the screen with a nice sharp edge.
