Calgary garage build - thanks to the forum

Thanks to the info from this forum plus the answers to my specific posts I have completed my garage build. Wanted to share the results given how valuable this forum is as a resource.

Moved to Calgary in August and the house we bought had a 4 car garage for some reason (2 bays wide by 2 bays deep). With COVID19 the one bay ended up being a home gym with the other becoming the destination for my SkyTrak golf simulator.

The plan was to build a dual purpose room that would house a golf sim but also allow indoor mini stick hockey and soccer games to take place.

The pictures show the development over the last 4 months from concept to final product.

Pads on sides fold over the brackets holding the screen bungees so family can play soccer safely. Hitting mat is interchangeable with a piece of the putting green material that sits level with the rest of the floor so no one trips when playing games other than golf. Putting surface isn’t perfect but it will do for winter practice.

TV goes in the back wall for watching golf during practice via wireless receiver.

Turned out exactly how I hoped.

Looks great Dan. What are your room dimensions and did you place anything behind the screen to prevent a lot of ball bounce back?

18” gap to back wall which was simply to line up with a stud. Room is 22 ft long by 10’-5” wide. Nothing behind the screen and the bounce back is only 2 ft with a driver. The hitting mat is 5x5 ft and centre is 9 ft from the screen.

Room length was set to allow my truck to park in the bay...with Calgary winter and summer hail leaving a vehicle outside is asking for it.

Great job DanFindlay - thanks for the pics and drawings too. Your narrow garage space will give me a good idea of what I can do in a narrow shed (I'll probably end up with 11' width). What did you use for a projector? And it appears you are at 4:3 ratio, correct?

Yes 4:3 worked well with what I had to work with.

Great info! Do you have anything more on how you prepped the floor? Just plywood over cement and then did you glue down the putting turf?

Pink insulation (1” thick) then 3/4” plywood. Putting surface was glued down.

I do wish I had glued down the insulation/plywood. I think that would have made things a bit more stable.
