  • Outdoor Build with QCQ

I’ve seen some Q’s about outdoor builds. So I figured I’d share the one I just finished with help of my son and a friend. Literally moved tons of dirt and soil to level backyard. Turned out to be a much more entailed project, beyond my simple photoshop sketch (French drains et la).

I originally designed for a Rapsodo MLM which was a nice unit on the range but more complicated hitting into net. Then sold Rapsodo ordered a Mevo + to add simulator features. Heard the problems people had with putting, chipping, tweaking, yada yada. Just sold unopened and acquired a QCQ to avoid buyers regret daydreaming of a quad. Really blew the projected golf budget with that late edition!

Just figured out how to set FSX to 4K, significant improvement in graphic quality. It’s not intuitive and initially thought it was running at highest resolution, but wasn’t a graphics were a bummer till 4K reset.

    Key features:
    - QC Quad - love it
    - Nylon Green - Stimps @ 11/12
    - Fiberbuilt dual hitting studio mat (4x9)
    - Net Return Pro v2 with customized no fly zone
    - 65” flatscreen with protective waterproof enclosure
    - Acer Nitro laptop w RTX 2060 (excellent buy thx to post here)

Learned a lot along the way if anyone needs some guidance.

Impressive build. How has the fiberbuilt mat responded to being left out in wet weather. I currently leave a flight deck out with my outdoor mevo+ set-up and its starting to sag in from the edges. Albeit I could probably just cut a piece of plywood under the whole thing, but am now wondering about going full mat and would want to leave it out full time

I suspect it should be fine. A lot of outdoor ranges here use them through the golf season and they seem to hold up well.

Sorry for delay, works fine so far. I did put French drains in and whole area seems to drain well. Turf & putting green never soggy and virtually dry after rain.

Looks totally awesome. This is sort of what I would like to do with my side yard since I don’t have the interior room for a sim. What kind of putting turf did you use? How do you like the sand trap? Is the design working out well? Anything you would do different?

Sorry for delay, I kind of got lucky with design. Went from
Just a place to hit a few balls and into an outdoor simulator. Luckily it all fit well, like a place for a 65” monitor right by Hitting mat (TV wasn’t in original design). The Sand trap, while we could hit from it, is purely for looks. Don’t want to spatter sand on my green since it’s 100% envirofill ($$). I chose nylon putting green, based on all my googling. Got the Turf and putting green from Turfhub.com- worked out great with their recommended Pet Turf for the fringe / rough areas. I think the biggest thing I underestimated was all the ground prep (French drains et la) that I almost skipped, but is proving to provide excellent drainage and likely less strain on walls and turf. If I had to do it all over, I would of been more careful about distances to net etc, depending on launch monitor. Upgrading to QC Quad eliminated the min distances I had planned with a Mevo+ (have 8ft and 8 ft by pure luck so it would of worked).
