  • Need advice on results of using foam balls with my simulator

Hi all, while I’m awaiting my impact screen I purchased some yellow foam balls that have no dimples to hit into the wall. My setup is almost complete except for the impact screen. I am using a skytrak simulator hooked by an active usb to a Dell gaming computer and I’m using a Optoma Gt 1080 hdr projector. I’ve tried using the driving range and my driver is not reporting anything correct. I’m typically a 90-95 mph swing speed and my drives are between 225-235 yards. The furthest I can hit with my driver is 150 yards. My swing speed using an 8 iron is faster and I register shots at 125 yards. Everything is off and I hope it is because I’m using foam balls with no dimples. I thought skytrak registered the club head and it did not matter if it was a foam ball or a real golf ball? Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, I purchased TGC 2019 and when I play a course using these foam balls half the time I don’t get any reads. I sometimes swing 4-5 times before a shot is read. Especially using my hybrid. Thanks in advance for any advice.

It is the exact opposite of this. The Skytrak only tracks the ball and makes a good guess what the club is doing. The foam ball speed and spin are going to be way different than a real ball. For good results, you will have to use real balls.

As he said ^^^, skytrak measures ball data, not club data. Club head speed is calculated based off of that. If you were to hit one of those foam balls outside with a driver, how far do you think it would go? My guess is probably a lot less than 230. Once you start hitting real balls you'll start getting real results.
