  • DIY Garage simulator

Thanks to all the members on this forum that shared their experiences and setup. I would not be able to complete my garage simulator without reading all their posts.

My simulator was built in 2 phases.

    Phase 1-

    Optishot
    white Tarp
    Foam balls
    Projector screen
    Dr J projector
DIY stance matt made out 1.5 inch MDX and extra carpet I had in storage room.

Not a big fan of optishot felt more like a video game. The data was inaccurate and it may read the club path but that's about it.

I thought this setup would get me through the winter but I only got through using it 3 times. I started looking for other devices. I read many reviews on Mevo+ and skytrack.

I picked Mevo+ so can use it outside at the range or on the course.

Phase 2 - I built this simulator as a non permanent setup. Needed to keep wife happy so we can park the car in the garage during winter months.

    Mevo+
    Fibrebuilt hitting strip
    SQ raw impact screen 9x10
    Astro turf
    foam matts
    Tarp clips
    bungees cords
Bought heavy denim for sides, top and back of the simulator
Used aircraft cable to hang the side protection
Used angle iron and book shelves to hang impact screen and backing.
Using old iPhone and iPad with lighting to HDMI adapter to my projector.
Kept my original projector but mounted it to the ceiling
    used my DIY hitting matt.

I am Really enjoying the Mevo+ after figuring out my optimal setup.
FS golf and FS skills App are great.
E6 is awesome until you need to chip under 20 yds

I can setup my garage simulator under 10 mins so not bad to hit real golf balls in the winter.

Thanks again to all the members on this forum.

I like the club rack - did you make that yourself? What did you use for the attach points?

        yes I did build this.

I bought these off amazon RealPlus 30 Pack of Fishing Pole Holder Clips Clamps Holder Rack Organizer for Fishing Rod Storage Rack, Rod Racks - Amazon Canada
i had some extra 1"x1" wood pieces in my garage for the top and bottom of the rack.

works great i can store my golf bag away for winter garage golf.

DM me if you want closer images.

Hey boungolf - congratulations on Phase 2, looks great!

            I have a few questions:

            1.)
Bought heavy denim for sides, top and back of the simulator
Where did you find that heavy denim, and how heavy is it? How did you mount that up above the Sim, how close is it to the ceiling and is it dropping balls straight down? Unique, most hang baffles up there that hang straight down, you've hung yours straight across which would save on fabric and hanging wires, so curious how it's working for you?

            2.)
            used my DIY hitting matt.
Did you give up the Fiberbuilt for a DIY? Instructions please on how you made your DIY and if it is just as good/gentle on the wrists as the Fiberbuilt?

            3.)
I am Really enjoying the Mevo+ after figuring out my optimal setup.
FS golf and FS skills App are great.
E6 is awesome until you need to chip under 20 yds
I've seen a few videos on the FS Play app, looks even better than FSX2020, is that what you are using for playing? Also, regarding the E6 with chips under 20 yds. Do those not read in E6, but do in FS golf/range, or FSX2020?

4.) Regarding question above, how is the putting on Mevo+? Is it working ok for you? Can you putt from 6' and under?

            Thanks,
            =-Brett

              Hey Brettser,

1.) I bought them at a fabric store in Canada called Len Mills. I went in and ask for the thickest material that would stop golf balls and black denim it was.
my ceiling protection works greats and stops balls when they start rolling up the screen and depending where the ball hits off the sports screen it stops the balls 95% of the time. When i did not have the ceiling protection man the balls would fire back at me when it hit the sports screen.
You cannot see it in the picture but my protection hangs down from the ceiling to the sports screen. most ball drop to the floor.
Took me a while on how to figure this out with the material i had at home without breaking the bank.
I will send pics in a later post on how I setup my top protection.

2.) I should of said DIY Stance Matt 5-5
its built with 1.5" MDF, anti-fatigue mat, astro-turf

I have two hitting strips Fiberbuilt and CCE strip. I love my fiberbuilt one as it does not hurt my wrists or arms. I find the CCE strip one really bad swing really hurts i rather avoid that.
I put my CCE strip behind my fiberbuilt and when playing E6 i would hit all my chips/pitches on the CCS strip when E6 reads the distance in feet.
              the setup works well.

3.) I use the Mevo+ with FS Golf, FS Skills and E6. I love all 3 apps.
I have no issues with chipping under 20 yds in E6 seems to work great.

4.) I do not putt in Golf Sim. i have E6 auto putt for me.

            Hey Brettster,

here is the image of my top protection. hopefully you can see what i did with the aircraft cable.
I had extra aircraft cable and use it to keep the denim low on the top of the sports screen.
I attached the back of the denim with tarp clips and bungee cables.
Screwed the front on ceiling with washers so it would not rip the material

Was hitting high pitch shots this weekend and the top protection works great.

Thanks boungolf - so it looks like your aircraft cable is what I had in mind with tension wire, using a turnbuckle. That's all clear, and the tarp clips and bungee cables - it looks like they are clipped over some kind of metal bar up high at top of the roll-up screen? Either that, or it is pulled back over the top of the screen, and secured to the back wall with eye hooks?

Either way, I can see that would be a good baffle, and from the looks of the face-on pic it seems that entire length of fabric is almost the entire width of the screen, so about 8' wide? Cool - I could see that being a good stop, how high is your ceiling up there at the peak where you screwed on the denim?

              @Brettster,

The bar is for the bottom of my impact and sports screen. nothing to do with the top protection the aircraft cable handles that and it sits right on top of the sports screen roller bar.
yes i use eye hooks, bungee cord and tarp clips. to pull the material under the aircraft cable.
If i had to move it i would probably go further out with my aircraft cable i think is only 1' out i would probably go to 2' next time.

The top protection is about 9'x5'

              my ceiling is 10.5'

Are you still using a Mevo Plus? any issues with interference due to the garage door being behind the impact screen?

Yes I am still using the Mevo+. its working great. When i used the device outside in the driving range my data parameters indoor and outdoor were pretty similar. I stopped stressing out about interference as that's what I did when I first received the device. My devices readings have been improved as I have more ball flight 11' hitting to the door. My old setup was only 8.5'. Every update flightscope releases the device receives improvements. I cannot wait for the next update for fusion tracking.
