  • Enclosure - How wide? (12 ft vs 13ft vs 14ft wide)

I'm looking to build a DIY enclosure using Gunghogolf's instructions. However, I don't know if I really need/want to build out a 16 foot wide enclosure. It would end up taking a lot of space in the garage.

For anyone else that's built their own enclosure, what do you recommend? 12 foot or 13 foot or 14 foot (screen width)? I could probably go 15 foot wide for the screen but want to leave some room for storage on the sides of the garage.

Distance to hitting area may influence your decision. How far back are you thinking?

Also you likely want to match your width and height based on what aspect ratio you want to run (16:9 or 4:3). If you plan to also use it as a movie screen then 16:9 is a good option but requires extra width depending on your screen height.

Thanks. I'm going to be hitting from 10-12 feet away from the screen. The aspect ratio I will be going for is 16:9. I re-measured my space and rather than regretting the smaller size, I'll go with the 14.5ft width enclosure that gives me about 8 ft in screen size (built out to 9 or 9.5 ft enclosure height)

Anything 10 feet away or further is likely going to mean that full wedge shots are hitting the very top of your screen or maybe even the roof of your enclosure before getting to the screen. You will need to think about some type of netting/baffling to catch those wedge shots. Otherwise they may bounce back at you more than you like.

Very good point. I suppose I need to balance ball bounce back vs hitting full wedge shots. I've contemplated getting the netting you've mentioned. Lob Wedge flop shots are already hitting 8 ft high on my Net Return from just 5-6 feet away.

Have you picked your projector yet ? I found that there weren't many choices in the 10; to 13' range.

I have the Optoma GT1080Darbee short throw. It's worked well for the Net Return Pro I have but need to determine how it looks with the new setup. I have to figure out whether it's worth it to go with a 4k projector instead vs sticking with 1080p.

I used the stealth elite enclosure in my garage from Par2Pro. The front screen and the side screens roll up. I hit at my 16' door and I can go from parking cars to a full golf sim setup in about 5 minutes. Watching sports on it is amazing too!
