  • Screen enclosure safety

Hi, I just finished my screen enclosure that I purchased and the size is 10 feet wide by 8 feet high and a depth of 3 feet. I’m concerned that a guest who is not a good golfer could shank the ball and hit the emt pipe that is top to bottom on the right side. I will be hitting from approximately 7 feet away. This could be a safety issue even though the pipe is wrapped with the 1 inch diameter foam. I was thinking of buying a 2 inch memory foam topper for a twin bed cutting it in half lengthways and running it from top to bottom on the right and left posts. Has anyone done something like this or know of a better way to protect the person from hitting a shank and having the ball ricochet off the 1 inch emt that is only wrapped with the foam pipe insulation from Home Depot? I thought about getting one of those side nets from Ruckett sports but there is no real way to attach it at either end. My room is 15 ‘ wide by 16 ‘ deep. I welcome all suggestions.

I have similar screen size and hit from 8 ft. On the shank side I hang a Harbor Freight mesh tarp from a hospital curtain ceiling track. As for a guest, have them use Almost Golf Balls and assess how dangerous. With inexperienced golfers I have found that the ceiling is more prone to damage from sky ball off the top of driver.

Thanks...sounds like a good option and thanks for the tip on sky balls. Is the harbor freight mesh just hanging or is it connected at the top using the curtain ceiling track and connected on the bottom somehow?

Side Curtain (Mesh Tarp) attached with hospital curtain track
Ceiling Net (Mesh Tarp) attached with eye hooks and carabiners, draped over impact screen

I'm thinking of doing almost exactly this. A black mesh sun shade tarp, doubled up over back of screen, to almost the eye xo.

I have a very similar custom setup. I've had a few hard shots hit the right pole (1" EMT with 1" pipe foam insulation) and come flying back. I like the pole there to attach screen and netting, but need to solution better cushioning. I agree something triangle shaped in corner like memory foam might work. I'm following for further ideas and will share if I come up with something.

I hit about 12-14 feet away, which allows more angle to outside post. I built mine 7' deep and have sidewalls beyond that, but I have young kids who play occasionally.

Question on the Harbor Freight Mesh Tarp: How does it slide / retract? I need to be able to slide / retract mine out of the way to move the car back in. Definitely thinking of going the ceiling track route as well - but just not sure how the tarp will bunch up on itself as it slides to one side for when not in use. Not sure if you're sliding yours out of the way, but just curious on your thoughts.

Hangs like a curtain on the track with similar properties. I actually have a 90 degree corner track that allows shank side curtain to be pulled behind the screen. I can easily get a car in provided I move my hitting platform out of way.
