  • Sufficient depth of shed build

Hi everyone. I am in the mid-stages of planning a shed build for a sim. I preemptively purchased a Uneekor QED before the price hike Jan 1st in hopes the plan comes to fruition. My concern is room depth. The drawings done up for the shed given land restrictions on site will give me an interior space of 24.5' deep x 17' wide x 12' ceilings. I am very happy with the width and ceiling height but concerned that 24.5' depth will be tight to accommodate the hitting area with enough room behind it for a bar table and stools/ golf bags etc and people comfortably far enough behind the swing clubs.
From your experience, how much depth with a comfortable space behind a swinging driver does the hitting area take up (including the 1' space behind the screen)? I'm guessing I might only have 6' or so left behind it for a table/stools, people and bags?
    Thx

This is a great question and something I underestimated as well. I have a seating area approx. 8 feet behind the hitting position (about 6 feet behind the edge of the hitting mat, and I thought that was plenty of space - and it is, as long as folks are seated. It gets pretty "attention-grabbing" if they stand up during a swing. But You should have enough space - don't measure from the Uneekor placement, measure from the hitting position. So, 24 feet minus the one foot to the screen, minus the 10-11 feet to the hitting position should still give you 12+ feet. I might make sure any seating around a table is on the sides only but I think you should be good.

Thanks for your analysis. It's hard to visualize on paper. So what is the total depth of your room?

I am just under 21 feet to the back of the seating area so just under 22 feet in total.

I feel like 7 feet in diameter from the ball in all directions is the “danger” zone. The length of a driver is 4 feet (45” so a little less) and your arm is 3 feet or so from torso. Assuming you have both hands on the club you’d likely never come close to 7 feet.

If you haven’t already, use Draw.io or another free web app (excel works too) to draw out your space. Measure tables and chairs and the like and place them into the drawing. Give yourself 11’ ball to the hitting wall (assuming ball to screen is 10’) and 7’ behind the ball. That gives you 6’ to play with for a bar top and chairs. Figure 18-24” in width is needed for walking. Seems like plenty of space for a table top and chairs or a couch.

it’d be cool if this forum had a topic where people could post their blueprints of their spaces. I think it’d help quite a bit.
