  • Simulator Build protecting EMT

Hey guys, I got a Carl’s DIY set coming and I’ve seen issues with the tubing providing potential ricochet issues, would like to know a detailed idea of how to prevent this I know from what I have read on the forum the pipe foam tubing won’t work. Just want to have everything planned out for when it comes. Really appreciate the help and pumped to get this set up.
    Thanks,
    joe

I have a Carl's DIY and I use the foam pipe insulation but I also purchased a piece of 2" memory foam and cut it into strips and inserted the strips inside the Velcro flaps on the bottom of the screen as well as the back (top) and inside the enclosure. That really the only place you need protection, IMO. It works just fine for me.

I built my own using a piece of foam wrapped with awning material. You can see in the picture if you zoom into the corner. These keep the ball from hitting the EMT and since they are not connected to the screen with velcro, they let balls by but keep them back there too. I put EMT protection all the way around, but not on the side panels. They are attached to the EMT using grommets and ball-bungees.

Thanks! I looked around alot to try to find something that would work, but like everyone else in this forum, my setup is pretty unique. I didn't want to ask my wife to try to sew these things so I just wrapped them like a Christmas present and used zip ties to hold it on. I had to try a couple times to get the right shape / size, but I have a huge slab of foam rubber so I just hacked off another set of smaller slabs and layed them out.

One thing I should note is that I used a foam that is considered "FIRM" and I should have used medium firm to soft. When the ball hits one of the protectors, it works, but it is loud and it doesn't always take all the heat off the shot. Since it is so easy to replace the zip ties, I will likely replace them at some time with softer foam.
