  • New (long term) build

Hello all. I have been reading post on this (and other) forum for a couple weeks and have decided to start on a hitting area that will turn into a simulator (eventually). This will be in my garage with ceiling height of 9'3". I started with hanging a net from a cable secured from the ceiling joists. So far, this is the only step I have completed. My net, ordered from justfornets.com, is one 10x10 section for the main hitting area and 2 - 6x10 for the sides. I plan on using carabineers to attach the net to the cable so I can slide it out of the way when not in use. The side nets would attach to a separate eyebolt via a bungee. I bought the Fiberbuilt flight deck (oval shape) for a hitting mat and plan on building something to stand even with the hitting surface.

Eventually I will buy a Skytrack, projector and impact screen to have a simulator. I would hang the impact screen in from of the net from the same cable. Projector would be ceiling mounted, I'm assuming I'd need a short throw one, but I'm a ways off until I'd need one.

    Questions I had:
    - Are 9' ceilings enough to hit a driver (I'm 6'1")
    - Do I need tension on the sides of the main hitting net (perpendicular to ball flight) if I am going to attach the side nets?
    - With the 9' ceilings and the 10' net, will I need to weight the bottom or is there enough material there to stop a worm burner?
    - How far from obstructions should the net be hanging? I have it 3' now, but I could move it if I had to.
    - How is the cable vs the EMT that I have seen most people using? I worry about ricochets with the EMT
    - I see most enclosures have the shank netting at a 90 degree angle to the hitting are. Is there any benefit to having them angle outwards (~120degrees)?

Thanks to anyone wo takes the time to read this and/or offer advice.

I am 6'1" and I have 9'4" ceilings in my garage. I can swing all my clubs comfortable in there with no issue. That extra 3" makes a BIG difference from 9' ceilings. I think I would hit the ceiling on my follow through with 9' ceilings, but the extra 4" is comforting!

I can't answer most of the questions about the netting since I am putting together an impact screen.

I am 5’11” and have just over 9 feet of ceiling height after accounting for the height of my mat etc. Driver is the only club that might hit the ceiling. While I have yet to hit the ceiling, I do note that I will typically choke down on my driver a half inch to inch when using my driver just in case. I want to take out anything that may cause me to swing a little flatter than what I normally would.

I know someone who swings over his head a lot(Slice like nobody's business), so I'm a little concerned about him. Otherwise, if your swing comes back behind you, you should be fine. I have about 9ft 0.5". I have zero trouble swinging in mine(I'm 6'). If you do swing over your head, maybe its a good opportunity to change the swing path up a bit, haha

My nets are suppose to be here tomorrow and I built my hitting deck last night. I bought the fiberbuilt oval and used a piece of plywood with the oval cut out. I have some 3/4" mdf runners underneath to give the clearance. I am raised up about 1.5" which still gives me over 9' of clearance to swing. I will be covering it in turf soon.
