  • Putting area in front of impact screen

I have a fiberbuilt golf Mat 7x4 on order, from what i have seen that is roughly 2" tall. I want to put a putting area between the hitting mat and impact screen, something cheap, I found Grizzly Grass at the local lowes and nothing can compete with the price of .50 SF, for what I am looking for I think it will work fine. That is only .25 inches thick though, my thought for my garage is use rigid foam board on the concrete and then foam tiles 3/4" prolly and leave a 1/4" for what I need to match the fiberbuilt. Thoughts on this, is it okay to put the rigid foam board right on the concrete and will this hold up. I've seen a lot of guys talk about Dricore but this would be a cheaper option I believe

I have a fiberbuilt hitting mat as well and have thought about this a bit. Currently, I just putt off the fiberbuilt and the ball drops 2" but since I have a photometric LM, it doesn't impact the read of the putt. It does make it a bit difficult to gauge how hard to hit the putt though. Also, the fiberbuilt grass isn't the best putting surface, but that's a slightly different topic.

For building up the floor, you could build a wooden subfloor using 1" thick strips with 1/2" thick plywood over the top and then add some carpet pad on the top of that and then your grass. This would be pretty cheap and the plywood and carpet pad come in different thicknesses to get your total 2" stackup. You could even build a ramp-up at the screen to prevent putts from going under the screen, if that's even an issue for your setup, but a ramp at the screen has been discussed on here before.

Since this is going on concrete, which probably has some uneveness over the entire area, you'd want the wooden frame to sit on some type of cushioned layer on the concrete, maybe a very thin carpet pad or the moisture barrier padding they use for laminate flooring. Or if you wanted to go all out and make the concrete level and even, you could pour a concrete auto-leveler thinset.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you do since I still need to do the same.

Do you have a 7x4 Mat are those the true outside dimensions, what is the actual thickness of the fiberbuilt mat is it two inches? I have seen where other people have mentioned under 2", I don't have my mat yet and would like to be able to have everything framed around it.
