  • Lighting for GC Quad Setup

This is the room where I am going to install a Foresight Sports Sim in a Box system. The dimensions of the room you are looking at is 13.5' wide and 19' long. The lowest part of the ceiling near the far window is 8'. The far peak is over 10 feet. The ceiling height in the middle of the overall room is 16 feet and the closet are is dividing the bedroom and the bathroom. There is another window - south facing - near the center wall where the picture was taken.

The fan has been raised up to about 9'6" -10'. I do not really have much lighting in this room and was wondering what kind of lighting I should put in for the GC Quad. The bathroom has windows on 3 walls and the entire space has windows on all 4 sides. I want to add cameras if I can work it out (distances to side and back wall are not great.

I had read something about using DC lighting - I assume to avoid the 60HZ flicker of AC power? I am a mechanical engineer but have no clue on the lighting aspects. I assume that daytime and night time use will have different requirements.

    Thank you,

    Andy

Hi Andy - I don't believe I saw a reply to your post. Apologies if I missed it as I am still new to the forum. I just received my GCQuad and am about to start some repair on my garage. Was wondering how particular I need to be in the type and location of lighting relative to the hitting zone. Do you, or anyone have any guidance that I can be sure to consider as we look to get lighting mounted?

    Thank you all!

My friend just installed the sim in a box setup. His setup is in the garage and he has black out curtains all around so its dark. He has garage lights but they are bright. Projector still shows up well and it’s not an issue but looks better with lights off. If he leaves lights off you need some light but I think a lamp or small light is sufficient. Just need it for keyboard and a light light just visually to see the ball before hitting.

Also, how both of you received everything already. He ordered back in early December and has yet to receive the computer that was supposed to come with the setup. Luckily he had a computer that would work with the setup.

Thanks for the feedback davidgolfer! I actually only had to wait 3 weeks for my sim in a box, plus another couple for the computer scheduled to get here tomorrow. I was surprised. Was originally told that it'd be an 8 week lead time which is more what I was expecting. Looking forward to getting everything up and running over the next few weeks. Sounds like lighting isn't that particular so I should be in good shape. Thank you again!

Lighting the ball impact area won't be an issue. Anything will work. You'll spend way more time trying to figure out how to make the screen image look better. The GCQ doesn't need a lot.
