That would absolutely work! I sort of tried that shape first, but it sat a little too far from the screen and I didn't like the look of it. I even carved out the bottom so that it would fit over the EMT moving it a little closer to the screen, but for some reason, I just didn't like the look. The other thing, although its not a huge issue, in using a floor mounted protector is that the ball may often hit and fall straight down behind the protector. That's a first world problem, though - "Oh, I don't like picking balls out from behind the protector of my indoor golf simulator once in a while."
To get what I wanted, I used the cable method I described above. After closely eyeballing the setup at the local PGA Superstore, I wanted my protectors to look like theirs, but they have heavy duty velcro on their impact screen and I don't. I like the way mine looks now and having the bottom section cable-suspended gives it even a little more give for the rare shots (from other guys) that go in low. And yes, sometimes the balls do drop behind mine too.
