3-D Printed Mat Grippers

Our sim has a hitting mat on top of a putting surface. When not using the simulator, we can remove the hitting mat and enjoy the putting practice. However, I grew very frustrated with the mat sliding all over the place when taking full swings on the mat. I tried rug grippers and different rubbery mats to place underneath the hitting mat to prevent it from sliding. Nothing worked.

Then, my 11 year old junior golfer sensed my frustrations and saw my multiple failed Amazon purchases (rug grippers, yoga mats, etc) to attempt to stop the mat from sliding. So he designed corner pieces with spikes to stabilize the mat in his tech class and we had them 3-D printed. We've been using for a couple of weeks now and it has almost entirely eliminated the sliding. There is no additional wear on the putting surface either.

Genius! I have the same issue Quattro mat moves hitting off my putting surface and it gets annoying after a while. Are you and your son planning on selling them? I would purchase if I could get them to fit a 1-1/4" thick mat.

Thanks for your nice comment! My son is an aspiring entrepreneur and would love to sell them. It would be a good way to finance a 3-D printer that he could continue to use to engineer creations. Perhaps if we see enough interest, I could set up a quick online store for orders. Would need a few weeks to get set up before we could ship.

I had the same problem. My matt would move around when I just walked on it, let alone hit shots. My other turf was not for putting so I just cut out a 5x5 hole, threw down a non-slip carpet pad, and put my hitting matt on that. Since that time, my matt has not move at all. I love your solution though. Looks super cool and works!

I would take some as well. Let us know when they are available to purchase. I currently use anchors in my cement floor and then thread bolts into the anchors and then have to line up my stance platform to the bolts. Kind of a pain when you have to move it for whatever reason, this would be way simpler for me.

I have a 3D printer but suck at CAD design. I could use some of them as well though.

Here's a quick design I threw together if someone wants to try to print it. I can't upload STL's to this site so just download this file and change the extension back to .stl and I think it should work. If not I'll have it uploaded on thingiverse in 24 hours once my account is activated. I have a printer but I don't have a way to test it (have the top mat but no turf to put it on to try).
