  • Screen size for garage

    Hi all,

I am having a new garage built and I have a quick question about screen size before the electrician gets here this week.

I would like to put a sim in in the future and my plan is to put a par2pro stealth screen in front of my garage door. I have roughly 9'7" of floor to ceiling height and my garage door 18'x8'.

Do you think I'd be better off going with a 14' wide impact screen or a 16' wide impact screen?

The reason for asking the question now is I need to install some LED garage lights and I need to tell the electrician where to put them. I am trying to keep them out of harms way so they would not be in the sim area. With a 16' wide screen I will need to push them pretty far out to the sides of the garage (about 3.5 feet from the walls) and with a 14' I'd be able to keep them a little closer to the middle. There is also the projector consideration. I think I will go with a BenQ TH671ST. With a 14' wide screen I'd be able to put the projector closer to directly over my hitting area and with a 16' it would be a foot or 2 behind my hitting area. I'm not that worried about shadows there but am a little concerned about hitting it with a follow through club swing.

16 wide and 9 tall gives you a perfect 16:9 ratio and you would be able to fill the screen nicely that way. I would plan for that and be less concerned about the projector choice as you have other options, especially since it sounds like you aren't doing this immediately.

If you have to room I would go with a 16" by 9" screen and offset your projector to the side a little. you will always wish you went bigger after a few weeks.
