Finally starting to build!

Ok so finally been starting to buy things and about ready to build now that my garage is clear!

so far I have my screen (Birdie screen from Gung Ho) and my strip (fiber built).

My best step is to install the screen (angle iron and bungees) and get some stall mat.

one question I have so far is for the stall mat I was debating putting ply wood under and turf on top. Has anyone else has experience with this? Would it be better to got eva on top of the mat?

just picked up some angle iron, I was thinking of doing that for the sides, a wire across the top so I can drape the trim over there and then let it hang loose at the bottom or attach to emt if it needs to be tighter. I also will have side curtains I just ordered from Amazon on a track.

Just waiting for the epoxy on the floor to dry and I’m going to dive into this!! (Space is 21x11x10h and my plan is to do an Eye XO on a slide for RH/LH)

Ok, returning the angle iron and just going with a wire (inspired by @jerry3) epoxy is dry so step one is to load everything back into the other garage and order the stall mat for delivery this week. Think I’ll just do the eva foam and turf on top of there.

Been delayed on the stall mat because tractor supply locally is delayed. Still debating on the layering with the fiberbuilt strip. Has anyone layered 2 on top of eachother?

Not quite sure what you are asking. I would not be terribly concerned about what is below the FB strip (assuming it has a base). It would be fine on top of the stall mat or the foam, but the foam would not be required IMO. Nut I may not be visualizing what you are trying to achieve.

I was going to stack 2 stall mats together, layer turf on top and cut out an area for the strip so it is close to level. What I was wondering if EVA or plywood would be better alternatives to stack on top of the first layer of stall mat.

When I was planning my space I thought I might need to put my QED on a slider. Turns out I don't need to, but did a bunch of research on it and found this https://www.progressiveautomations.c...18277305778243
For your 11' wide space, you'll likely need about 4' of travel for RH/LH. This site also sells a wireless key FOB to control the actuator so all you'd need to do it push a button to move the EyeXO.
All in all for about $500 you'd have a remote control slider. A manual slider option would be cheaper, but you'd be sliding the thing back and forth with a golf club likely.

If you wanted to get real fancy, I'm sure there's a way to automate the thing another way, but I hadn't got that far down the road.

Does this attach to a track that you would buy and mount?

The link is for the Linear Track Actuator itself, which is the track.
You would then mount this track actuator to the ceiling, then mount the launch monitor to the part of the actuator that moves. The complete kit is sold by InHome Golf https://youtu.be/h2nDpulEmgE but I don't think it would be hard to DIY.

Ok, need a bit of help with the screen. How high should I set the wire? The area is 11’ wide so figure screen will be 10’ 6-8” then maybe 4” of overlap for the side curtains on each side resulting in ~120”. That gives me 120”x90” projection area, but figure the top should be higher for any trim?

let me know if anyone has faced a similar issue/how much room people have left for their aren’t over the projection area.

Also, would 8” behind the screen be ok? That’s where the stud is.

Not sure exactly what you mean by wire and trim but if your room is 132 inches wide and 120 tall, then a screen that is 120 wide and 90 tall is a nice fit.

3on3putt I was wondering if it should have the wire be at 120” height (probably 121” with the tarp clips) or at a higher height to allow for some trim to overlap the screen and Frame it out?

Picked up the stall mats today! Going to figure out how to lay them out. Let me know if anyone has a good way to cut these! Also, still looking for advice on the screen. Hoping to get this all set this weekend and then buy the big ticket items!

Thinking about using these same mats. How do you like them since you installed? How did you end up cutting them?

Stall mats are in! I found an issue with the screen though, the stud on the left is 16” from the back, but on the right it is 13”. Might force me to build an enclosure which I was trying to avoid...Any suggestions?

Build your own stud by attaching a horizontal board or two between two studs and then a vertical board at the 16 inch mark to serve as your stud.

I ordered the Eye XO, TGC and a DIY set from Carl’s (he’ll of a deal) last week! Should be here in 9 days. Due to the door I could only do an 18” deep frame. I plan to go with that for now and switch to the wire frame if it doesn’t work.

curious if anyone here has an 18” frame and if it needs to be attached. Carl’s rep was on the fence if it needed to be attached to the wall somehow?

Ok frame is up and projector is hung! I will probably chop down the enclosure someday to get rid of the empty screen space, but this is great for now! I hung the projector to the angle iron holding up the garage opener (which may move along with the rails being raised...). Goal tomorrow is to hang the eye XO!

Any tips on how to rotate the pics BTW?

Uneekor went up tonight!! Also cut my mat in so that I can finish the flooring soon. Pretty easy setup (minus some minor software install issues...partially my fault...)

Ok turf is in! Not that thrilled about how I cut it around the mat. Advice for anyone in the future out be do all the flooring at once and then cut from the top vs starting at the ground and going up…

need to figure out a good laptop shelf and a few other things to trip it out!
