  • Help, Analysis Paralysis

Analysis paralysis, certain that is synonymous with DIY golf simulators… I am looking for some input from users that have more experience with this then me, which is none. So here is my setup and I don’t know if option 1 or option 2 is better:
    • Mevo+ Launch Monitor (will use both indoors/outdoors and wife is a lefty)
    • 8’9” floor to ceiling (for once in my life, 5’4” is a good thing)
    • Option 1
      • 8 to 9’ - Ball to screen
      • 8’ - Ball to Mevo+
      • 8’9” - Screen height (8’9”H x 11’x4”W)
      • Bigger screen, easier install, less distance for Mevo+ to measure
    • Option 2
      • 9’ maybe 10’ - Ball to screen
      • 8’ - Ball to Mevo+
      • 7’10” - Screen height (7’10”H x 10’4”W)
      • Smaller screen, harder install, more distance for Mevo+ to measure
Option 1 is simper but option 2 is certainly doable, just need more ceiling protection. My main question is would another foot of distance at the cost of a foot of height reduction be worth it? I have read irons should be fine, but with a driver the extra foot could help, particularly with ball spin. I have attached some mock-ups to better illustrate my basement conditions, but the issue is a soffit for ductwork; option 1 would be in front of it and option 2 would be below it.

For swing speed and ability, don’t remember specifically but needed the next stiffer shaft for the driver per the club fitter when I bought it and have 3 kids under 6, so no practice = no game.

Any simplified perspective to get me out of the rabbit hole would be greatly appreciated.

If it were me, I would go with option #2. Performance of the launch monitor should trump all else. What good is an extra foot of screen if you aren't getting proper reads?

That makes sense. I was also worried about wedge shots and how that would be affected, longer distance and shorter height. But I guess since that is a slower shot, should still give it plenty of time to gather a measurement.

Thank you, "performance of the launch monitor should trump else" is great thought to keep perspective.

I'm not a Mevo user but I think they generally say 10 and 8 is kind of the ideal distances (10 screen to ball and 8 ball to unit). I would verify that though with flightscope and/or orher mevo users. So that would make it option 2 unless you could squeeze another foot out of the hitting distance in option 1.
