I set up a hitting area in my garage over the end of lockdown and it has worked well. I am now looking at upgrading and adding a launch monitor to get more feedback on my shots. I have a few uncertainties going forward and would like some feedback.

First - Launch monitor: I will be using it mainly indoors (probably 90%+) so I was leaning towards the skytrak especially with the chipping and putting problems with the mevo+. The only drawbacks are if my lefthanded friend comes to play and the 100 bucks a year to play on skytrak. Plus the mevo+ is sim ready out of the box, which would be really . How bad is the chipping and putting on the mevo compared to the skytrak percentage wise? I do have the room for the mevo+ if that factors in.

Second - Build: I set up the net I have differently than I have seen it set up anywhere on this or any other site. (crude drawing- red is a cable attached to ceiling via eye-bolts, gray is the net attached via carabiners )

Would I be able to hang the impact screen in front of the net from the same cable? I was planning on leaving the bottom unattached and maybe 2-3 bungies on the side to something (the wall?) to keep in flat. Are there other canvas options other than impact screen that are durable. If its not 100% white id be ok with that. I have used football field turf for a flooring below the net. It isnt a puttable surface and I know the mevo needs the ball to travel so I'd have to change it up if I went mevo, but how far does a putt need to travel with skytrak?

Ill probably be back and asking questions when I get to the projector, but I want to worry about getting the launch monitor 1st.

Ended up pulling the trigger on the skytrak. I think it will suit me best.

It will likely take some experimenting, but you will probably be able to hang both from the same cable. I have my impact screen and about 5 sheets and blankets all hanging from the same metal pipe.

Unattached on the bottom is the way to go. Although you'll probably want more than just 2-3 anchor points on the sides. Think more like 6-8. Since you are not doing an enclosure, you might want to consider angle iron attached to the wall and then use bungees and tarp clips to attach the screen.

My personal opinion here of course, but don't bother with "alternative" screens. You want a dedicated golf impact screen. And you want it to be all white. If you don't want to spend several hundred dollars on one, look up Supertex screens. They sell screens from an eBay store and are a very durable and a very good low-budget option. Good picture quality. Good bounce back control and a fraction of the cost of many other screens.

A putt doesn't need to travel any specified distance with Skytrak. It's a photometric system so it's taking pictures of the ball after impact. It doesn't matter what happens to the ball after those pictures are taken because the Skytrak is finished with it by that point.

That being said, I have found it helpful to have a putting mat that extends from your hitting mat to the screen. It just makes it easier to judge how hard to hit it because it gives you a longer area to use as a baseline. I spent about $40 on one and just glued attached it to some wood to make it the same level as my hitting mat. Pretty cheap and easy.

Tip for putting with the Skytrak = place the ball about 6 inches behind the red dot when putting and try to roll the ball over the dot. That's been the best method in my experience.

What sim software are you going to use?

Probably tgc, I may use WGT for the first year.

I used WGT at first but didn't last long before I pulled the trigger on TGC. WGT has some good graphics but the chipping on WGT is just impossible. Makes it unplayable. The closest to the pin games are fun, but actually playing an 18 hole round is brutal because the short game is so buggy. TGC is the single best purchase I ever made.
