New Sim build in RI

I hope to make this a running log of my progress on my new Sim room. I have learned a lot from everyone's inputs on this site. Thanks!
My space will be roughly 17.5' wide by 25.5' long. Ceiling height is 10.5' rising up to 12.5" in center.

Optoma 1090 - wife bought it last winter as a gift--guess I have to build this room..

Not sure how big of a screen to go with. Planning on have about a foot between screen and back wall and the tee at 10 feet from screen. If I stick to roughly a 16:9 aspect ratio, I could do something like 15 wide by 8.5' tall.

Is that too wide? or too big? Some people say you don't want to have to move your head to see the whole screen. Would prefer not to get too much farther from screen so that I can have some seating for guests.

Ideally everything should be relative in simulators and in the right proportions. So you could have a massive 30ft screen but you'd want to be teeing up much further back than 10ft! A really big screen with not much depth wouldn't be good as you are standing to close. Imagine if you stood 2ft back from a 50" TV, you wouldnt be able to watch it. I have a 10ft screen and tee up 9ft back. I wouldn't want the screen much bigger for that tee position as I would just be too close and loose clarity and perspective, basically the bigger the screen the further back you want to be - 15ft is quite big if you are standing only 10ft away but you also cant go too far back due to height of screen and hitting higher clubs - so its a fine balance. Also you need to think about projector positioning

I project a 14.5' wide image, and hit from 10' back, and it looks great... The other consideration is the room you are using it in, and the ambient light that room receives - Mine is in the garage, so during day time I am always fighting the ambient light and the projectors lumens (GT1090) - I installed blackout window shades, and am installing blackout tint for the garage door windows, and have 8' deep black canvas curtains one each side... If you have ambient light and can't reduce it, a smaller image will show better than a larger image. If you are in a basement or something, where you can make it completely dark, then its not an issue and I'd suggest the 15' width.

Ok, finally got some pictures. Now I need to get busy wire electrical and A/V rough in.

Contractor had trouble getting the scissor trusses so went old school. Now I have a 16 ft peak, (instead of a planned 12 or so). Looks great inside, but will need scaffolding for some of the work.

thanks for the screen width replies. There will be no windows so it will be dark as needed. Leaning towards 15' wide unless others think I would be too close at 10' or so.

Hacker is right, that “perfect” distance can be effected by the size of the screen. I’m positive you’ll be perfectly fine with the 10 feet back but I’ll guess you’ll wish you were another foot or two back for a better range of view. The enjoyment of a properly spaced seating area will outweigh the extra 2 feet distance to screen though. Looks like it’ll turn out great with that room!
