  • New Garage Setup Version 3 0 - Help with Projector Setup.

    Hi Ladies and Gents,

So, this is version 3 of my build. I first had a custom enclosure, but it was just too big and bulky and didn't care for the quality. Then I got a Net return sim series, but didn't like the saggy screen. This was my post about it... https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-wrinkles-help

I got the idea of using the full size of the room from one of the forum members and began a quest to find a good screen that doesn't require a whole lot of enclosure and does not lose the immersion factor. Finally, I got a SQ screen from Par2Pro. The installation I will admit was a bit of pain (amateur diy beware). Anyhow the assembly is mostly complete just need to put up the ceiling protection. In the meantime, not being really successful with the projector setup, so wanted to see if my friends can help me out here.

    ABOUT the SCREEN:

The screen is an impressive 9 feet tall by 11 feet wide, with remote control motorized roll up/down feature.

    ABOUT the PROJECTOR

I have an Optoma GT1080HDR short throw projector. According to the projector calculator, the projector needs to be 8 feet 2 inches away in order to cover the screen height wise. I actually don't really have that much ceiling space when I open the garage. Only about 7 feet away from the screen at present.

Calculate the perfect throw distance and screen size for your Optoma GT1080HDR projector with the ProjectorCentral Projection Calculator Pro.

I would be fine with getting another projector if that is what it takes. Perhaps there is something wrong with the way I am setting up the projector. I am getting sufficient width but not height from current distance. I held the projector in the second picture so you can see that it can indeed cover it, but that distance is around 9 feet away and I just don't have that ceiling depth with the garage door up like I mentioned. What are my options? Placing the projector to the side wall offset in the back? Antoher projector that is ultra short throw? Would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Change the setting to 4:3 aspect ratio and mount it 7'4" away. It will fill the screen horizontally and leave 9 inches of blank vertical screen that you can split up however you want between top and bottom. You mentioned that about 7 feet is the furthest away you can go with it so that should work well for you. You don't quite have the space to create a custom resolution to fill your screen with the current projector but a few inches of blank screen is really no big deal.

Your screen is not a 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10 dimension so you won't fill the screen without customizing the resolution, which requires backing up the projector to the spot needed to fill the screen vertically (which won't work in your space). Change to 4:3 and only go back as far as you need to fill it horizontally.

try changing the resolution to a 4:3 resolution and then resizing in your GPU control panel if possible. Changing the projector to 4:3 unless its a native 4:3 will squash it a bit.
