  • Brand New Build

Five months after embarking on a brand new golf build plus a complete garage makeover, I’m totally done. Complete specs:
    • ENCLOSURE: Carl’s Place 16:9 7.7’ x 13’ x 5’ Golf Simulator Enclosure Kit with Premium Golf Impact Screen
    • LAUNCH MONITOR: SkyTrak
    • COMPUTER: Dell Alienware m17 R4 Laptop w/ NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX 3080 16GB
    • PROJECTOR: Optoma GT1090HDR
    • HITTING MAT: Some thick, soft mat that I ordered about ten years ago that’s still in great shape.
    • SUBFLOOR: Dricore 3.75 sq ft Standard 1" Flooring Underlayment (28)
    • TURF: Home Depot TrafficMaster Putting Green 15’ x 10’
A few notes: First, I knew I’d want to play during daylight hours. But the afternoon sun hits my garage directly. And I have to keep that garage door open (too hot, etc.). So that’s how I came up with the tarps. I have the entire front of the garage shrouded in two layers of tarp: white on the outside to deflect heat and black on the inside to stop the light. The tarp on the side of the enclosure is permanent. I hang the other with magnets whenever I’m ready to play and take it down and roll it up when I’m done. There’s still some ambient light, but it works pretty well.

Second, the graphics card on the laptop is overkill. But I was thinking long term and possibly other applications as well.

Third, I really like the Dricore for the subfloor. Twenty-eight pieces arranged seven across and four deep ended up being exactly the right length for the Carl’s Place Enclosure. I don’t even have a half inch to spare on each side. Perfect. And lucky.

Fourth, I can’t tell you how impressed I am with the Carl’s Place enclosure. Quality build and great-looking. I anticipate it’ll be around for a long time to come. I was worried that 7.7’ wouldn’t be that high. It ends up being plenty, although I'm also positioned far enough out not to hit it.

Fifth, this forum was a huge help. Couldn’t have done it without the help of lots of posts and members who answered my questions.

Yes! I actually just flip the mat up on to the turf and can roll in my car with decent room. But it's a one-car garage going forward.
    Working...
