  • Radiant In-floor heat in Sim room

Hey guys, I am starting on my SIM and the floor has radiant heat (Hydronic). I am worried about covering it up and not getting the benefit of this heating system. It seems that anything that is a good floor covering for in-floor heat is hard which is not good got a SIM build with golf balls flying around. Are there any products that you know of that will would good for cushioning floor impacts and will be good for heating.

    Thanks

I have hydronic radiant heating in my downstairs sim. Its actually a 4 bay garage. The area for the sim is 15 x 26. My turf is about 11 ft from the screen, so that area is definitely not getting the heating benefits but the area is quite large so it has no effect. The area behind the turf is just bare concrete. We never have balls land on the concrete. If your screen is installed correctly, the balls should just basically bounce back a foot or two. Depending on your size of the room, I would just put an engineered hardwood down in the area you sit/walk and turf in the hitting area. If you have not poured your concrete and put down your Pex pipe, I would put two zones in the room so that your not trying to heat under the turf.
The other option is to just have a small stance mat/hitting stripe which would not effect the heat, but then you have the issue of the balls bouncing on whatever is on the floor. The hydronic heating is a ridiculously effective heating source. You don’t need a lot of area to heat a room. I have 6000 sq feet of radiant heat and it does not take much to heat. If your room is big enough, I would just cover part of it with turf and leave the rest behind it to heat the room.

Unfortunately, the room is a single zone with 2 circuits (loops). It is 16' x 20' specifically sized for the Mevo +. I will see if there are areas of the floor that I can keep uncovered to help the heat work more efficiently. Thanks
