Any audiophiles here?

Building a sim in my detached unfinished garage. Screen is up, projector mounted, wired spotlights the basics are there. Just waiting for Garmin to ship the R10 to my reseller. So I really want it to double as a budget home theater for movie nights with my six year old. Had an extra receiver and picked up an old Bose Acoustimass 15 for $150. They actually sound really decent. I don't know why Bose is condemned in the audiophile community. But I'm not one, just an enthusiast who appreciates better audio than tv speakers can deliver. So my question. Where in da hell do I put the center channel? Garage is a gabled roof so above and behind won't protect it even with a ceiling net. My other option is to mount it to a truss far forward from the screen. Like close to 5 feet in front. I'll try it and see when I set up the system but just wanted to get opinions here. For home theater is placing the center channel far forward of the screen a dealbreaker for accurate sound? Or will the receiver auto calibration account for it and adjust? If it is ok do the left and right fronts need to come forward also?

Center Channel (generally) carries dialogue and as such is best kept close as possible to the screen. Many here have rigged up a small cage to protect their projectors - I am wondering if something like that could give you the flexibility to mount the speaker where it should be? WRT Bose products (often referred to as Bo$e) they are quality products but generally viewed as overpriced for what you get and often best in small confined spaces. Sounds like you got a great deal so as long as you are happy with the sound - Enjoy!

Cage could work. Might not be necessary. I did test it behind Carl's premium screen at ear level and I barely noticed a difference in dialogue. For a more professional setup I wouldn't do it but it's fine for us. I mean this isn't Cannes. I'm sure my six year old will hear how many rocks Ryder wants Rubble to move in Paw Patrol just fine. I considered putting in a center channel but have decided to forgo it for the moment. I plan to try and run with a phantom center for a while and see how I like it. I hope to have my speakers up tonight to try it out. I'll be running JBL Studio 530s. They have a pretty wide soundstage so I hope it should work ok.

To answer your original question I think it would depend on the receiver. Most Yamaha and Denon's I have used will calibrate for distance from speaker and you can use the software and mic to set levels.
