  • projector help on new simulator build

I have been hard at work on building my new garage simulator. I have read a ton of topics here and have resolved all of my questions except for the projector: I also am using projector central and its resources. I believe I have a good handle on the technical aspects.

    Floor mount versus ceiling mount.

I believe I initially to floor mount the projector but have room to ceiling mount it necessary. I just don't want the projector in my swing and mounting it further back brings more ambient light into the equation want to floor mount the projector.

Resolution: XGA versus SXGA versus 1080P 4:3 configuration

Budget wise I am leaning toward buying a used XGA BENQ MX819ST or ViewSonic PJD6352LS
and see if the resolution would be good enough.

It does not seem that SXGA buys me much for a 4:3 configuration versus XGA

If I am just going to be disappointed with the XGA resolution then I may need to suck it up and get the 1080P like
Optoma GT1080HDR. are there any more budget friendly options at 1080P. I have looked extensively and am not finding any.

    1080P

    My build is:

    a 10x10x10 cage with a 10x9 screen
    Garmin Approach R10

I have more data and options on my computer, but my daughters dog ate my charger. I know it sounds funny but it is the 3rd charger cord eaten. 2 by my sons dog and one by daughters dog. I love them though so it is ok. I like my children too

    Thanks John

I just got a projector off Amazon for under $200 it's a Yaber y30, I don't have it full hooked up yet but I did a little testing with it, seems like a pretty good image. In the basement with a couple lights on was bright enough, and 1080p native. Pretty impressed with it so far. They actually have one that is supposed to be brighter for another $20 more, the Y7. If you go to Amazon, they currently have coupons you can apply for $50 or $100 off depending on the model. If you don't like it, can always return it.

Edit: so I got it hooked up better.. it's still a decent projector, pretty clear and bright enough. 1080 looks crisp. However, I can't get the screen size to go above about 120" in 16:9 mode before I'm unable to focus it any longer. I contacted their support and they say 3 meters is the "optimum" distance for the projector. At 3m, you'd only have about a 100" screen size.. so, that's a major downside. I would like to get about 180" (this projector claimed 200"). Unsure if I'll keep it or not. They did offer me a small refund, which would bring the price down to only about $160.. hard to imagine will get anything better in that price range.
