Building a new addition for a sim room and I'm thinking of pre-installing 2 inch white PVC pipes as conduit for projector HDMI cables above the ceiling and in walls. Is that a good option? Any recommendations? Objective is to make it easier to replace the HDMI cables and add additional cables in the future.

PVC pipes as conduit for projector HDMI cables?

Use central vacuum pipe. It has just under 2" inside diameter, has dozens of different fittings so it's easy to run and glues together the same as rigid PVC, plus putting in outlets for the cabling is very simple.
Shouldn't be any code issues so long as you're not penetrating between fire barriers or between an attached garage and the living space. Just make sure to use a sweeping 90° instead of the tighter one for going around corners or larger cable heads might become stuck.
I was able to pull 40' of cable with a Samsung smart TV head (1.25") around three 90° turns with no problems when I did my living room TV setup.Last edited by bubbtubbs; 09-29-2021, 06:13 PM.

I did this with my build, was essential for clean finish. Wires were all low voltage (HDMI, ethernet, aux) so no issue with coding

Also this. I'm an electrician so I know not to mix line voltage and extra low voltage in a conduit but sometimes I forget it's not common sense. I should have mentioned that in my post.
You might run into a grey area if you're planning to do any power-over-ethernet devices in that conduit, though - not sure what the current code on that is.

Why not just run extra ethernet cables through the ceiling and walls. If the HDMI cable ever fails, one of the extra ethernet cables can be converted into an HDMI cable. My AV electrician did this for my room addition. He installed a box for outlet and to clean up cabling in the ceiling and ran the HDMI and a total of I think it was 4 ethernet cables through wall to the HDMI/ethernet outlet box. No need for installing piping. If sound is an issue, that is just one more thing to transmit noise. Scroll through my room addition journey and you will find pics of what I did.

Check page 4 I think it is to see how it looks after EyeXO and projector were installed. I have other images of box install and wiring throughout the earlier pages.Last edited by Kaos; 09-30-2021, 04:47 AM.

Electriduct 2" Split Wire Loom Tubing Polyethylene Corrugated Flexible Conduit (2 Inch ID) - Black - 25 Feet
This is what i use to run all my AV cables in my house. comes in different sizes. You can always pull more cable through if one breaks or need another one.

pathfindr that's some serious insulation! Is that rock wool? I'm at that step myself of insulating the gambrel barn/roof... was hoping to spray glue 1" iso insulation up there and cover the ceiling with lightweight 'luan board'/plywood as I have a weight issue and don't want too much in my space...
Looks great, what did you use on the ceiling for covering it?

pathfindr - Nice, thanks... that's the reason I avoided that pink batting in the walls - itchy and heard bad things about installing it, and dealing with smell later. Does this stuff have any smell - when installed and after?
Looks good from the site, must be this stuff EcoBatt: https://www.knaufnorthamerica.com/en...lation/ecobatt

hah - I'm out, can't stand smells, and already been coughing the last two months with all the work I'm doing myself! I'll stick with my iso foam board, no smell at all, the only bad part - when you cut it, it's that squeeky sound of fingernails on blackboard (basically styrofoam coffee cups but 1.5" thick).

I ran my HDMI cable in 1 1/2" PVC conduit. Works great. 2" would be better. It was a pain pulling the end of the cable through the "elbows" because the HDMI connector is probably 1" wide.

thanks Tom Howarth - I'll see what I can do with 2" then... I also have to install some 'Plumber Access Panels' along the back wall where my Garmin Approach R10 will sit.
