  • Side wall protection - acoustic tiles, carpet tiles, or gym foam tiles?

Researching options for side wall protection for my sim room. The current thinking is to use peel-and-stick or glue some sort of foam tiles or carpet on a piece of plywood and screw it to the wall.

It seems like 3 popular options are: acoustic foam tiles, carpet tiles, or gym foam tiles. From amazon reviews, a lot negative reviews about acoustic tiles as they are shipped compressed and don't recover uniformly.

I'm leaning towards peel and stick carpet tiles similar to this one https://www.homedepot.com/p/Foss-Fir...15PK/206665156 They look nicer than acoustic tiles or gym tiles.

Would love to hear what people have used and any feedback on the various options.

Interesting. I used 12x8 mats that I had left over from jujitsu that i screwed into the walls behind my impact screen. Side protection I just used photography backdrop shades from Amazon as sidewall protection. Works for my purpose.

That's a new one to me, do you have a picture, I'm curious how that would look, and what the material is like, maybe a link to the Amazon?

        I used these:

I glued them to the wall with:

They look really good. Were very easy to install, you just have to read the directions on the adhesive and let it get tacky before you stick them to the wall.

Can you please post a picture of this? This is the exact solution I plan on using, as approved by the wife. Just ordered some samples

Do the carpet tiles deflect the balls and knock them down as well as the foam tiles?

Here ya go. I don't have any pictures yet. Look wise is not an issue for me. I used some ceiling mounted curtain tracks from Amazon as well. Since I have to use my garage for the cars still, I found this to be the best option for me. I tuck the excess fabric under the temporary green turf I have. This whole set up is still a work in progress. While it is not the most aesthetically pleasing when compared to some sims you see here, it works for my needs which is all that matters.

mario_k94 thanks for pic, I'm trying to understand if that stops a ball on the sides (like hard shanks)? And those are 2 black photo backdrop screens? Do you have a link to which ones you purchased and how miuch they were? I dropped around $100 for blackout curtains and they are way heavier, actually blocking light from a window too, which those probably would not do? They look very thin.

I put the link in the bottom of my previous post just under the photo but here it is again. https://www.amazon.com/LimoStudio-Fa...st_sto_dp&th=1 Yes they are photo backdrop drapes. They handle shanks very well. My daughter and I both have hit shanks into them. They are 13" long so i roll up the excess and either tuck it under the edge of my turf or lay it along the edges. I have not had any issues with them at all. They do allow some light transmission but my garage door is behind me and I hit with either the lights off or my one LED light from my garage door opener on. It will all depend on placement. Like I said it works for my purpose and needs and I feel 100% comfortable on them handling shanks. Additionally, they are 9' wide which gives me a lot of side protection since I generally leave my work vehicle in the 3rd car side of my garage. Let me know if you have any other question

Thanks mario_k94 - really amazing those are so big for around $30. I hope they hold up for you... I'm using blackout curtains on one side, and gym mats on the left side. I didn't want to have curtains take up 7"-8" of width from my screen when the gym mats can cover it with 2"-4".
