  • New simulator finally done!

    Hello,
    I am Luca 37 y/o from Italy. I have been playing golf for 5 years and I am mid-handicap at the moment.
    I have long dreamed of building my own simulator as my golf course closes several months in the winter, and I finally did it!

    I want to thank the forum and the many users from whom I took inspiration even though I had never written before.

    But stop the chatter and see my work...

    The first step was choosing where to build the simulator... the choice fell on the living room of an old apartment under mine:

    I had some doubts but my first choice has always been the Trackman - so I looked for a room that met the size requirements - i have 7 meters lenght, 6 wide and 3.5 in height.

    The floor was not completely level so I created a wooden platform for leveling - I covered the floor by gluing a carpet - I also built a wooden enclosure to which I glued foam rubber panels to cushion any impacts;

    And with the lights off - just one Led flood for Trackman impact

    And it is also possible to cheer on your own team - go Juventus!

    I hope you enjoyed my work.. I am very satisfied also because I made / designed everything by myself. From masonry work, carpenter, upholsterer, electrician etc..
    The foam panels were made by a company following my drawings.

    The two monitors are both touch screens;
    The projector is a Viewsonic PX748-4k
    The MSI Trident pc has a GeForce 1660 (hard times for video cards)

    On the wall there are two supports for making videos with Iphone (the trackman is extraordinary in this)

    On the back of the screen I made a storage for golf bags / accessories;
    I made a rack for golf clubs with carved numbers.

    If anyone needs more photos or information I am available!

        frisi Well done - looks great!

        How is the projector performing - I am looking at that Viewsonic model or maybe the Benq 700STi. How far back and high did you mount the projector and what’s your screen size? Any issues with shadows?

        Like you, I intend to use my 6.3m x 5.3m x 3.2m room for sim and viewing sports/movies. So keen to know how well
        the 4K experience is like with this projector for sim and quality of live sports etc.

          The projector is placed on the back wall, at 6.4m from the screen and around 3.2m height. In that way my shadow (i am 1.88m) appears only if i go on putting mat.

            frisi thanks - I can push a maximum of 5.5m distance from screen at 3.1m height. What is the projected screen image size from your 6.4m projector distance? And the 4k quality is good from that far out?

            It appears that the Viewsonic PX748-4k is good on a lot of factors compared to Benq TK700STi - the throw distance is the main factor counting against it for my set up. The Benq model is also more expensive for lesser lumens, lesser digital zoom, lesser contrast ratio, etc - but shadows would be annoying and from ProjectorCentral calculations, the Benq model has less chance of shadows in my space.

            My screen is 4.2m width and 2.4m in height. The setup of that projector is awesome, very easy to correct shape.

            With shadows I must say that my setup is borderline, so I guess that you could have troubles.

          Looks awesome. Where did you get the foam panels from? And do you mind sharing how much it cost ya for the panels? Thanks!

              I contacted a company that cuts foam panels to make pillows and mattresses and asked if it was possible to make custom-made work.
              20 square meters of cutted foam for around 700 euros.

                Excellent setup you have !! How thick are the Foam panels, are they effective to deflect mishits? Also do you hit the ceiling with your sand wedge ?

                  The foam panels are 5cm thick .. when I hit the roof with a full lob wedge (sometimes) the ball bounces like crazy on the turf and then comes back to me.. not at great speed but it kinda scare you if not you expect it. I think it's due to the fact that the foam I used is quite stiff as I wanted it gray and it was only available in that density. With a softer foam I think the problem is solved completely.
