  • Would like some advice please!

    Hey Everyone,

I've been lurking around here for a while and need some help for my future build. Little back story.....

I've been married for almost 20 years now. During that time I've honed my skills at the art of the deal! I believe this may be my best yet!

I'm a dog person and my wife most certainly is not. I've been trying to get a puppy in the house for a while now but have been met with staunch opposition to say the least. Her argument, with 2 pre-teens, 2 cats, and a "42" year old teenager she doesn't need anything else to take care of. Between us, she's not wrong! Might I say she's right? Never lol. Anyway I saw my opportunity for a Let's Make A Deal episode & pounced. Unbelievably, to my surprise she took the deal I conjured up and here I am now.
Dog is 100% off the table never to be mentioned again, & I have an unlimited sim budget! Win for her, win-win for me. Let's be honest, I didn't really want to be picking up $hit in the middle of the Texas summers anyway.

So, here's the help & suggestions I am asking for. I have 2 locations that I can build the sim. Garage or existing theater room? I've attached some layouts of the 2 rooms. Which would be a better option? I built the theater room before I thought the sim would be an option so my build is strictly for home theater use. I have my center channel speaker in the wall behind my perforated acoustic screen. I was looking into building a retractable impact screen in front of the existing screen but not sure how much clearance would be needed between the two. Unfortunately my projector isn't a short throw so either need to switch it out or put another one going opposite direction. Not sure what's the better option.

    Any advice is appreciated

looking at the drawings, the garage would be tight due to the door opener and frame. the area in back is too narrow at 8.5 ft. If you removed the opener on the right side, that is where I would put it in the garage. Im sure you still want to park your car in there. plus do you have heat/ac out there? I would set it up in the theater room and use it for both theater and golf. Can you post some pics of room? What system are you going to use? you might need to change the projector based on what the throw distance is. What is make/model? thx Chip

Hey Chip thanks for reaching out. I'm open to any system really. Right now I'm between GC 3, Quad, and Uneekor Eye XO. I was also leaning towards theater room. Pretty sure my current projector doesn't meet the throw distance. (Epson 5050UB)

I'd be willing to build a motorized impact screen in front of the movie screen if needed. I'm open to most options as I'm comfortable with DIY projects.

NICE ROOM!! Your projector would mount is the 16-18 ft from screen range, So it could work. see attached for dimensions I need. Any of these systems will work. Depends if you want more of a permanent over head system or a launch monitor. Some mount above the ball and some mount 3-4 ft behind the ball. You can use the golf screen as a movie screen. Doing a retractable movie screen would be a lot easier than a retractable golf screen. How deep do you want the sides/top? based on size of the room and sloped ceilings . 10 or 12 ft long would be your best bet. 15 might be too low with sloped walls

Here's the measurements you needed. Hopefully my sketch makes sense. I'm not sure what the optimal screen size would be. Is there one? I'll have 10 1/2 ft at most from Tee to screen. How much room is needed away from the wall for the screen to absorb the shot? My current projector sits 13' 8'' from lens to screen. I can stretch that to max of 15'. Looking like I'll need to replace the projector with a shorter throw. That's unfortunate because it has around 200 hrs on it. I'm thinking 3-4' for sides ? I'm planning on building the sides retractable also. Starting to lean towards the Uneekor Eye Xo.
