I am in the process of putting together a DYI retractable garage golf sim. I have a TK700STi projector and a 16x9 retractable screen. The hitting area/ball position will be 12 feet from the screen (Mevo +) and the projector will be approx 2 feet behind the ball position. Ideally I would like to mount the light source on the ceiling about 3 feet in front of the ball (as recommended by Gunghogolf) and point it away from the screen. Unfortunately, this would place the light source if front of the projector. Would this cause too much wash out of the screen image? Would it be better to place the light source behind the projector and point it forward and down? Would pointing the light source forward and down from behind the projector cause any wash out of the screen image? Thanks in advance.

The lights won’t affect the the light beam from the projector. You definitely want them in front and pointing away from the screen. The idea is to reduce the ambient light on the screen to get a brighter picture with better blacks. The wash out you speak of only occurs when there is light behind the screen or light pointed at the screen other than the projector.
